Hydraulic Characteristics

Backwash

  • During up-flow backwash, the resin bed should be expanded between 50% and 70% in volume for at least 10 to 15 minutes.
  • This operation frees particulate matter, clears bubbles and voids, and reclassifies resin particles.
  • Approximately 30 minutes of expansion is usually sufficient when first putting into service.
  • Bed expansion increases with flow rate and decreases with influent fluid temperature.
  • Caution is advised to avoid resin loss through the top of the vessel due to over-expansion.

Pressure Drop

  • The pressure drop across a resin bed depends on particle size distribution, bed depth, void volume, flow rate, and influent solution viscosity.
  • Factors such as filtered particulate matter, abnormal resin compressibility, or incomplete bed classification can increase head loss.
  • Service flow rates may vary from 10 to 40 BV/h depending on influent water quality, application, and plant design.

Typical Packaging

  • 1 ft³ Sack
  • 25 L Sack
  • 5 ft³ Drum (Fiber)
  • 1 m³ Supersack
  • 42 ft³ Supersack
