Summary
Product identification
The FILMTEC™ SW30HR-380 is a premium grade seawater reverse osmosis element, engineered for high active area and high salt rejection to optimize long-term economics in seawater desalination systems.
Features:
- Delivers high boron rejection to help meet World Health Organization (WHO) and other drinking water standards.
- Maintains high performance over its operating lifetime without the need for oxidative post-treatments, contributing to durability and effective cleaning over a wide pH range.
- Automated, precision fabrication with a greater number of shorter membrane leaves reduces overall fouling effects and maximizes membrane efficiency.

- C (Dia): 7.9 inches (201 mm)
- SW30HR-380 fits nominal 8.00-inch (203 mm) I.D. pressure vessels.
- Each element is supplied with a coupler part number 118027, including two 2-125 EPR o-rings (part number 102284).
Operating limits
- Maximum Operating Temperature: 113°F (45°C)
- Maximum temperature for continuous operation above pH 10 is 95°F (35°C).
- Maximum Operating Pressure: 1,000 psig (69 bar)
- Operation at pressures up to 1,200 psig (83 bar) is allowable under certain conditions; consult a Dow representative for advice.
- Maximum Pressure Drop (per element): 15 psig (1.0 bar)
- Maximum Pressure Drop (across entire pressure vessel): 50 psi (3.4 bar)
- pH Range, Continuous Operation: 2 - 11
- pH Range, Short-Term Cleaning (30 min.): 1 - 13
- Maximum Feed Silt Density Index: SDI 5
- Free Chlorine Tolerance: <0.1 ppm
- The presence of free chlorine and other oxidizing agents can cause premature membrane failure. FilmTec recommends removing residual free chlorine by pretreatment.
General Information
- Avoid abrupt pressure or cross-flow variations during start-up, shutdown, or cleaning to prevent membrane damage.
- During start-up, gradually increase feed pressure over 30-60 seconds and achieve cross-flow velocity over 15-20 seconds.
- Permeate obtained from the first hour of operation should be discarded.
- Keep elements moist at all times after initial wetting.
- To prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns, immerse membrane elements in a preservative solution.
- Avoid permeate-side backpressure at all times.
