Operating Limits

The following are recommended design conditions. Operation outside these ranges may reduce effective membrane life.

  • Feed water pressure: < 2.0 MPa (286 psi)
    • Maximum Feed Water Pressure: 4.1 MPa (600 psi)
  • Feed water temperature: < 35 °C (95 °F)
    • Maximum Sanitization Temperature: 90 °C (194 °F) for SU-710T, 85 °C (185 °F) for SU-720TS
  • Feed water turbidity (SDI): < 4 (measured according to ASTM D4189)
    • High flux operation with feed water turbidity greater than 3 or 4 SDI generally requires frequent cleaning.
  • Feed water pH range:
    • Continuous operation: 3–9
    • Chemical cleaning: 2–10 (for SU-710T), 2–11 (for SU-720TS)
  • Feed flow rate per vessel:
    • SU-710T: < 50 l/min (13 gpm)
    • SU-720TS: < 200 l/min (52.8 gpm)
  • Brine flow rate per vessel:
    • SU-710T: > 10 l/min (2.6 gpm)
    • SU-720TS: > 40 l/min (10.6 gpm)
    • This figure is reducible when there is less possibility of fouling and scaling.
  • Brine/Permeate flow ratio (at last element): > 6
  • Pressure drop per element: < 0.1 MPa (14 psi)
  • Pressure drop per vessel: < 0.2 MPa (29 psi)
    • Elements must be cleaned when pressure drop increases up to 1.5 times of initial value.
