Summary
Product Identification
The MCC1401 filter cartridge is available in two primary media types:
- Epocel®: A resin-impregnated cellulose medium.
- Ultipor®: A resin-bonded glass fiber medium.
These are absolute rated media, engineered with varying grades and defined removal efficiencies, providing up to 54 square feet of effective filtering surface area for long service life.
Cartridges feature a pleated design, internally supported by a steel core, and externally protected by steel endcaps, ensuring positive sealing through an internal O-ring.
Epocel Filter Cartridges This medium consists of a resin-impregnated cellulose that locks fibers in place to prevent flexing or shifting, maintaining flow passage size and removal efficiency. It is compatible with many fluids, including fresh and produced water, acids, solvents, brines, hydrocarbons, and alcohols. Epocel cartridges are available in grades ranging from 10 micron up to 50 micron absolute.
Ultipor Filter Cartridges These cartridges are constructed with a resin-bonded glass fiber medium. The inert resin bonding prevents media migration and establishes a permanent, fixed pore construction to prevent unloading of trapped contaminants. They offer high dirt holding capacity, low clean pressure drop, long service life, and low cost per gallon of fluid processed due to high effective filter area and optimized construction.
Operating Limits
- Maximum Recommended Changeout Differential Pressure: 60 psid / 4.13 bar at 275˚F / 135˚C.
- Housing Rating: 285 psig / 19.6 bar at 100˚F / 37˚C (for carbon steel housings).
Product Performance Characteristics
The following table summarizes performance characteristics for MCC1401 elements. Absolute filtration rating is defined as βλ = 5000 or 99.98% removal efficiency at a given size. Gas removal ratings are per sodium chloride aerosol test.
| Cartridge Part Number | Liquid Removal Rating (99.98% / 99% / 90%) | Gas Removal (99.98%) | Effective Media Area (Sq. ft.) | Pressure Drop (psid/gpm) | Pressure Drop (mbar/lpm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MCC1401U2-20ZH13 | 2.0 / 0.8 / 0.3 | >99.99 at 0.3 micron | 54 | 0.021 | 0.382 |
| MCC1401U6-40ZH13 | 2.5 / <1.0 / <1.0 | >99.98 at 0.3 micron | 53 | 0.0015 | 0.027 |
| MCC1401E100H13 | 10.0 / 5.0 / <2.0 | 95.7 at 0.3 micron | 37 | 0.005 | 0.091 |
| MCC1401E280H13 | 23.0 / 16.0 / 8.0 | - | 45 | 0.002 | 0.036 |
| MCC1401E500H13 | 50.0 / 44.5 / 27.0 | - | 45 | 0.0017 | 0.031 |
- Area listed is for basic 3¾″ O.D. by 40″ nominal length cartridge.
- Liquid ratings for MCC1401U2-20 determined using 0.5 µm to 40 µm siliceous contaminant. For other MCC1401 cartridges, ratings use AC-Fine Test Dust in a water dispersion.
Applications
- Fluid Processing: Fine filtration for solvents, acids, chemicals, hydrocarbons, and water in refinery, chemical, and petrochemical processing.
- High Pressure Gas Streams: Finer grades remove over 99.98% of solid aerosols, preventing plugging of sensitive instruments or fouling of critical machine components.
- High Pressure Water Injection and Disposal: Provides reproducible high-quality injection fluids for waterflood and enhanced oil recovery operations, reducing formation damage and increasing sweep efficiency.

Housing pressure drop data is presented graphically in the original PDF. See the official PDF for exact tabulated values and curves for aqueous pressure drop across different housing configurations relative to flow rates. To calculate actual housing pressure drop, multiply the aqueous pressure drop by the fluid’s specific gravity. This value must be added to the filter pressure drop to determine the overall pressure drop of the filter system.
