Instructions for Use
Cleaning Procedure Summary
- Fill the cleaning tank with RO permeate or deionized water.
- Heat the solution to the maximum acceptable temperature according to membrane manufacturer guidelines.
- Add AvistaClean P312 to create a 1% wt/wt solution for mild fouling or a 2% wt/wt solution for moderate to severe fouling. Recirculate for mixing.
- Run the cleaning solution through each RO system stage sequentially for a minimum of 60 minutes at the membrane manufacturer's recommended flow rate.
- For 4-inch diameter elements, flow rate is 10 gpm (2.4 m³/hr) per vessel.
- For 8-inch diameter elements, flow rate is 40 gpm (9.0 m³/hr) per vessel.
- If the cleaning solution becomes discolored or turbid, discard up to 15% of the volume. Heavily fouled elements may benefit from soaking up to 8 hours.
- Monitor the pH. If it remains between 11.8-12.4 and the solution is not turbid, it can be used for subsequent stages.
- If the pH drops below 11.8, prepare a new batch and repeat the cleaning process.
- After cleaning, rinse membranes by flushing with RO permeate.
