Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: RoClean L404 Green
- Product Type: Liquid cleaner
- Brand: Avista
Description
RoClean L404 Green is a low pH, phosphate-free, multicomponent cleaner designed for removing metal foulants from RO and NF membranes. It is more effective than citric and hydrochloric acid solutions for tackling manganese, aluminum, and calcium carbonate scale. The cleaner is temperature-compensated to maintain optimal pH across a wide temperature range and is compatible with polyamide and cellulose acetate elements.
Performance Benefits
- Specialized blend of proprietary buffers, chelants, and reducing agents to dissolve metal deposits.
- Highly effective against metal hydroxides, calcium carbonate, and iron.
- Environmentally friendly formulation, free of phosphate and EDTA.
- Certified for offshore use.
- Highly buffered to resist pH changes during cleaning.
- Compatible with polyamide and cellulose acetate elements.
- Suitable for use with other Avista cleaners.
Specifications
- Appearance: Pale yellow liquid
- pH (2% solution): 3.5-4.5
- Specific gravity (@25°C): 1.15-1.25
Instructions for Use (Cleaning)
- Fill the cleaning tank with RO permeate or deionized water. Heat to the maximum acceptable temperature (per membrane manufacturer guidelines).
- Add RoClean L404 Green to achieve a 1% wt/wt solution for mild fouling or a 2% wt/wt solution for moderate to severe fouling. Recirculate for mixing.
- Run the cleaning solution through each RO system stage individually for a minimum of 60 minutes at the membrane manufacturer's recommended flow rate.
- For 4-inch elements, flow rate per vessel is 10 gpm (2.4 m³/hr).
- For 8-inch elements, flow rate per vessel is 40 gpm (9.0 m³/hr).
- If the cleaning solution becomes discolored or turbid, discard up to 15% of the volume. Heavily fouled elements may benefit from soaking up to 8 hours.
- Monitor the solution pH. If it remains in the desired range and the solution is not turbid, it can be used for subsequent stages. If the pH rises, prepare a new batch and repeat the process.
- After cleaning, rinse membranes by flushing with RO permeate. The system can then be returned to service.
