Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: RoClean P112
- Product Type: Multicomponent, high pH buffered cleaner
- Form: Powder
Description
RoClean P112 is specifically formulated to safely remove silica scale from reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. It is also effective against silt and organic foulants such as colloidal silica, clay, organic color, and bioslime. It is presented as a safer alternative to hydrofluoric acid and ammonium bifluoride solutions.
Instructions for Use
Cleaning Procedure Summary
- Fill cleaning tank with RO permeate or deionized water.
- Heat solution to the maximum temperature recommended by the membrane manufacturer.
- Add sufficient RoClean P112 to create a 1% wt/wt cleaning solution. Recirculate for mixing.
- Run the cleaning solution through each RO system stage for a minimum of 60 minutes at the membrane manufacturer's recommended flow rate. Guidelines for unknown rates are provided for 4-inch (10 gpm / 2.4 m³/hr) and 8-inch (40 gpm / 9.0 m³/hr) elements.
- For heavily fouled membranes, discard up to 15% of the solution volume if it becomes discolored or turbid. Soaking for up to 8 hours may be beneficial.
- Monitor the pH. If it remains in the desired range and the solution is clear, it can be used for subsequent stages. If the pH falls, prepare a new batch and repeat the process.
- After cleaning, rinse membranes by flushing with RO permeate. The system can then be returned to service.
