Summary

Product Identification

  • Product Name: AWC® UF-434
  • Description: MF/UF Low pH Cleaning Compound

Advantages

  • Low pH membrane-cleaning compound for dissolution of carbonate and phosphate scales from microfiltration and ultrafiltration surfaces and pores.
  • Effectively dissolves and chelates iron, aluminum and other metal oxides.
  • Buffered to maintain pH range even when product is accidentally overdosed.
  • Compatible with most UF/MF modules.
  • Certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 60.

Typical Properties

  • Appearance: Clear yellow to amber liquid
  • Odor: Slight Characteristic
  • Solubility in water: Complete
  • pH (as is) @ 25˚C: < 2
  • Specific Gravity: 1.35 ± 0.05

Chemical Feeding and Control

  • Water for Solution: Use potable water free of residual chlorine or other oxidizing agents (RO permeate or DI water are preferred).
  • Solution Preparation: Add 1-2 gallons of AWC UF-434 for every 100 gallons of water (~1–2 % solution), depending on fouling severity.
  • Temperature: Heat water to the maximum temperature allowed by the module manufacturer.
  • Circulation (Tubular Designs):
    • Circulate cleaning solution with filtrate valve closed, in the feed direction for 30 minutes.
    • Maintain pH of 2-3.
    • Reverse flow direction and circulate for another 30 minutes.
    • Measure pH every 15 minutes.
    • Add AWC UF-434 as needed to maintain pH 2-3.
    • Repeat until solution pH remains stable for two consecutive readings.
  • Back Flushing (if allowed): Back flush with cleaning solution from filtrate to feed for 15 minutes.
  • Post-Cleaning Flush: Flush modules with MF/UF filtrate.

Safety & Handling

  • Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area.
  • Keep containers closed.
  • Wash contaminated clothes before re-use.
  • Wash thoroughly after handling.
  • Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for more information.

Packaging

  • 5 gallon pails
  • 55 gallon non-returnable plastic drums
  • 275 gallon totes
