Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: AWC® UF-437
- Product Type: MF/UF Membrane Cleaning Compound
Advantages
- Concentrated liquid formulation for high pH cleaning of ultrafiltration and microfiltration membrane surfaces.
- Effective in removing stubborn biofilms and organic foulants.
- Particularly effective for removing metal oxide deposits in the pH range of 9 – 10.5.
- Buffered to prevent exceeding a pH of 12.
- Does not cause chemical hydrolysis of polypropylene and PVDF membranes.
- Compatible with most MF/UF modules.
- Certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 60.
Typical Properties
- Appearance: Clear yellow to amber liquid
- Odor: Slight Characteristic
- Solubility in water: Complete
- pH (as is) @ 25˚C: >12
- Specific Gravity: 1.20 ± 0.05
Chemical Feeding and Control
- Preparation: Use potable water free of residual chlorine or other oxidizing agents (RO permeate or DI water preferred). Do not use hard water.
- Concentration: 1-2 gallons of AWC UF-437 to every 100 gallons of water (1-2% solution), depending on fouling severity.
- Temperature: Heat water to the maximum temperature allowed by the module manufacturer.
- pH Adjustment:
- Adjust pH to the highest level allowable by the membrane manufacturer.
- To decrease pH: Use HCl (31% Muriatic acid), adding 0.1% by volume at a time. Mix thoroughly by recirculation before checking pH.
- To increase pH: Use NaOH (50% Caustic Soda), adding 0.1% by volume at a time. Mix thoroughly by recirculation before checking pH.
- Optimal iron removal occurs at pH of 9.0–10.5.
- Cleaning Procedure:
- Circulate cleaning solution through modules with filtrate valve closed, in the feed direction for 30 minutes (for tubular designs).
- Reverse flow direction; recirculate for 30 more minutes.
- Repeat as necessary until desired cleaning results are achieved.
- Add AWC UF-437 as needed to maintain the pH range.
- For systems allowing back flushing, back flush with cleaning solution from filtrate to feed for 15 minutes.
- After cleaning, flush modules with MF/UF filtrate.
Safety & Handling
- Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area.
- Keep containers closed.
- Wash contaminated clothes before re-use.
- Wash thoroughly after handling.
- Refer to the Safety Data Sheet for more information.
Packaging
- 5 gallon pails
- 55 gallon non-returnable plastic drums
- 275 gallon totes
