Summary

Product identification

AvistaClean® P611 Green

A multicomponent, high pH buffered cleaner that is free of phosphate and EDTA. It is effective against foulants commonly found in wastewater reuse plants and landfill leachate systems, including hydrophobic organic foulants, bioslime, clay, and colloidal silica.

Performance Benefits

  • A specialized blend of additives to dissolve organic foulants and disperse colloidal particles.
  • Environmentally friendly and free of EDTA and phosphate.
  • Foam fractionated for superior performance.
  • Highly buffered to resist pH changes during the cleaning process.
  • Compatible with the polyamide elements of all major membrane manufacturers.

Certifications

  • NSF certified for off-line use in drinking water systems.
  • Certified to NSF/ANSI 60

Operating limits

Cleaning Procedure Summary

  1. Fill cleaning tank with RO permeate or deionized water.
  2. Heat the solution to the maximum acceptable temperature according to membrane manufacturer guidelines.
  3. Add AvistaClean P611 powder to create:
    • 2% wt/wt solution for moderate to severe fouling.
    • 1% wt/wt solution for mild fouling.
  4. Recirculate to ensure adequate mixing.
  5. Run cleaning solution through each RO system stage for a minimum of 60 minutes at the membrane manufacturer’s recommended flow rate.
    • Guidelines for unknown flow rates:
      • 4-inch diameter elements: 10 gpm (2.4 m³/hr) per vessel.
      • 8-inch diameter elements: 40 gpm (9.0 m³/hr) per vessel.
  6. If the cleaning solution becomes discolored or turbid, discard up to 15% of the volume. A soak period (up to 8 hours) may benefit heavily fouled elements.
  7. Monitor pH. If it remains in the desired range and the solution is not turbid, it may be used for subsequent stages. If pH falls, prepare a new batch.
  8. After cleaning, rinse membranes by flushing with RO permeate.
