Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: RoClean P703
  • Product Type: Low pH buffered cleaner

Application

RoClean P703 is a multicomponent, low pH buffered cleaner formulated to remove metal foulants such as iron, manganese, and aluminum from reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. It is particularly effective on metal-fouled borehole water plants.

Features and Benefits

  • Temperature compensated to ensure cleaning solution remains in the effective pH range.
  • Certified by NSF International under NSF/ANSI Standard 60 for use as an off-line cleaner in drinking water systems.
  • Specialized blend of proprietary buffers, chelants, and reducing agents to dissolve metal deposits.
  • Superior to generic citric and hydrochloric acid solutions in removing metals and calcium carbonate scale.
  • Highly buffered to resist pH changes during the cleaning process.
  • Compatible with polyamide and cellulose acetate membranes from all major manufacturers.
  • Suitable for use with other Avista cleaners.

Specifications

  • Appearance: White powder
  • pH (2% solution): 2.5-3.5

Instructions for Use

  1. Fill the cleaning tank with RO permeate or deionized water.
  2. Heat the solution to the maximum acceptable temperature for the membranes.
  3. Add RoClean P703 to create a 1% wt/wt solution for mild fouling or a 2% wt/wt solution for moderate to severe fouling. Recirculate for mixing.
  4. Run the cleaning solution through each RO system stage (one at a time) for a minimum of 60 minutes at the membrane manufacturer's recommended flow rate.
    • For 4-inch diameter elements: 10 gpm (2.4 m³/hr) per vessel.
    • For 8-inch diameter elements: 40 gpm (9.0 m³/hr) per vessel.
  5. If membranes are heavily fouled, discard up to 15% of the solution volume if it becomes discolored or turbid. Soaking (up to 8 hours) may benefit heavily fouled elements.
  6. Monitor the pH. If it remains in the desired range and the solution is not turbid, it can be used for subsequent stages. If pH rises, prepare a new batch.
  7. After cleaning, rinse membranes by flushing with RO permeate.

Packaging and Storage

Standard regional pack sizes include:
