The IONPURE LX-MK module is a continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) system designed for final water polishing. It utilizes ion exchange resins that are continuously regenerated by an imposed electric current, eliminating the need for chemical regeneration. This technology has been applied in pharmaceutical, power, microelectronics, and food/beverage industries since 1987.

CEDI Process Overview

The CEDI process removes ionized or ionizable substances from water using ion exchange membranes, electrically active media (ion exchange resin), and a DC electric potential. It involves three coupled processes:

  1. Feed: RO permeate is fed through alternating dilute and concentrate compartments. A fraction of the flow is diverted to concentrate and electrode compartments. Ion exchange resin accepts ions from the feed water.
  2. Removal: The ion exchange resin serves as a bridge for cations and anions to travel. A DC electrical field causes ions to migrate toward ion selective membranes and into adjacent concentrate compartments, where they are carried away by the concentrate flow.
  3. Regeneration: Electric potential causes some water to split into hydrogen and hydroxyl ions, continuously regenerating the ion exchange resins in-situ without chemical reagents.

  • Continuous operation, no downtime for regenerations.
  • Truly chemical-free process, no brine injection required.
  • One pass operation, no need for concentrate recirculation.
  • Guaranteed leak free.
