Summary
4'' END PORT PRESSURE VESSEL Technical Manual
This technical manual, 1st Edition January 2016, describes BEL 4-inch end-port pressure vessels. BEL specializes in the design and manufacture of composite products, utilizing filament wound fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) with a superior epoxy resin. Vessels are tested according to ASME code section X and the company holds ISO 9001 certification.
Product Identification
BEL pressure vessels are designed as housings for spiral-wound Reverse Osmosis (RO), Nanofiltration (NF), and Ultrafiltration (UF) membrane elements. This manual specifically details 4-inch end port vessels with varying pressure ratings.
Supported membrane element configurations:
- 1 to 6 elements for 40" membrane length
- 1 to 12 elements for 21" membrane length
The pressure vessels are available in the following end port configurations:
- BEL 4" Pressure vessel 300 psi. End Port type.
- BEL 4" Pressure vessel 450 psi. End Port type.
- BEL 4" Pressure vessel 600 psi. End Port type.
- BEL 4" Pressure vessel 1000 psi. End Port type.
- BEL 4" Pressure vessel 1200 psi. End Port type.
Permeate tube diameter: Ø 0.75"
Operating Limits
- Permeate port pressure: MUST NOT EXCEED 125 psi (8.6 bar)
- Operating temperature: NOT BE OPERATED AT TEMPERATURES ABOVE 49° C (120°F)
- Operation outside these limits voids the warranty and may cause vessel fatigue or explosive head failure.
- Long-term operation above design pressure must be prevented.
Mechanical / Hydraulic
Construction Materials:
- Body of Pressure vessel: Glass / Epoxy
- Retaining ring, Strap assy., Retaining ring for E. port, Retaining ring P. port: 316 Stainless steel
- Base plate, Seal for Base plate, Seal for Adapter, Disk spacer, Adapter for Ø 0.75", Membrane seal for Ø 0.75", Saddle, Sealing plate, Seal for S. plate, Seal for P. port, Permeate port: Engineering plastic, EPDM
- End port for 300/450/600 psi vessels: 316 Stainless steel
- End port for 1000/1200 psi vessels: Super Duplex Stainless steel
- Support ring: Aluminum (for 600/1000/1200 psi vessels)
Installation Notes:
- Vessels should be installed horizontally on support saddles.
- Mounting design must allow for both radial (up to 0.5 mm) and axial (up to 2-3 mm) expansion.
- Mounting bolts for straps should be tightened with 2-3 Nm torque.
- Flexible piping connections are required to prevent load transfer and allow movement. Recommended permeate port connection is a U-bend pipe with flexible connections. Victaulic or equivalent connections are recommended.
- Maximum angle for end port connection: 2.5°
- Maximum offset for end port connection: 2 mm
- Spacing for end port connection: 1.6 mm (X)
Maintenance:
- Requires qualified mechanics experienced in high-pressure hydraulic systems.
- System must be fully depressurized before service.
- Regular inspection for deterioration, damage, corrosion, and leaks is required.
- Special tools (puller and pusher) are designed for head extraction and installation.
- Puller part numbers: 069-040-1200 (for 600/1000/1200 psi), 069-080-0450 (for 300/450 psi).
- Pusher for 4" vessels: Can be a plastic (PVC, PP, etc.) pipe with O.D.= 100 mm, I.D.=80 mm, Length=150 mm.
- O-ring seals should be lubricated (Molykote 111 or Glycerin) and are highly recommended to be replaced each time the head is reassembled.
- Shimming procedures are used on the feed side to minimize adapter and membrane element movement, especially for vessels containing 3 or more membranes.
