Summary
Product identification
The CodeLine Model 80E60 Fiberglass RO Pressure Vessel is designed for continuous, long-term use as a housing for reverse osmosis membrane elements. It accommodates any make of eight-inch nominal diameter spiral-wound elements.
Operating limits
- DESIGN PRESSURE: 600 PSIG at 120°F (4.14 Mpa @ 49°C)
- MIN. OPERATING TEMP: 20°F (-7°C)
- FACTORY TEST PRESSURE: CE / ASME 900 / 780 PSIG (6.2Mpa) / (5.4 MPa)
- BURST PRESSURE: 3600 PSIG (24.8 MPa)
- Permeate pressure: Not in excess of 125 psi at 120°F (0.86 MPa @ 49°C)
- pH levels: Not below 3 or above 10
Feed water
The vessel is intended to desalt typical brackish waters.
Mechanical / hydraulic
The vessel is designed in accordance with the engineering standards of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME Code).
Component Materials:
- SHELL: Filament Wound Epoxy/Glass composites - SS Head locking grooves integrally wound in place.
- Bearing Plate: 6061-T6 Aluminium Alloy-Hard Anodized.
- Sealing Plate: Engineering Thermoplastic.
- Feed/Conc Port: 316L Stainless Steel.
- Port Retainer Set: CF8M Cast SS, Two-piece set.
- Permeate Port: Engineering Thermoplastic.
- Port Nut: Engineering Thermoplastic.
- Head Seal: Ethylene Propylene - O Ring.(442)
- Port Seal: Ethylene Propylene - O Ring.(225)
- Retaining Ring: 316 Stainless Steel.
- Saddle: Engineering Thermoplastic.
- Strap Assy.: 304 Stainless Steel - PVC cushion
- Strap screw: 5/16-18 UNC, 18-8 Stainless Steel.
- Adapter: Engineering Thermoplastic.
- PWT Seal: Ethylene Propylene - O - Ring
- Adapter seal: Ethylene Propylene - O - Ring (124)
- Thrust Ring: Engineering Thermoplastic.
Dimensional Considerations:
- The high-performance reinforced plastic shell must be allowed to expand under pressure. Undue restraint at support points or piping connections can cause leaks.
- Shell expansion for a length code –7 vessel: ∆DIA = 0.015 in. (0.4mm) and ∆L = 0.2 in. (5mm).
- Maximum weight of branch piping:
- Feed/concentrate: 16 lbs (7.3 kg)
- Permeate: 8 lbs (3.6 kg)
Precautions for Installation and Operation:
- Mount the shell on horizontal members at span “S” using compliant vessel supports furnished; tighten hold down straps just snug.
- Provide overpressure protection for the vessel set at not more than 105% of design pressure.
- Inspect end closures regularly; replace deteriorated components and correct causes of corrosion.
- Do not make rigid piping connections to ports or clamp the vessel in any way that resists growth of the fiberglass shell under pressure.
- Do not hang piping manifolds from ports or use the vessel to support other components.
- Do not operate the vessel without permeate ports internally connected with a complete set of elements and interconnecting hardware.
- Do not overtighten the connection to the permeate port (hand-tighten plus one-quarter turn, then check for leaks).
- Do not tolerate leaks or allow end closures to be routinely wetted.
- Do not pressurize the vessel until double-checking to verify that the retaining ring is completely inside the groove.
- Do not work on any component until first verifying that pressure is relieved from the vessel.
Ordering
When ordering, specify the desired vessel length code (e.g., -1 to -7) and the membrane brand and model number to ensure appropriate interfacing hardware is supplied.
