Precautions for Installation and Operation
- Mount the shell on horizontal members at span “S” using compliant vessel supports; shim saddles if required and tighten hold-down straps snugly.
- Align and center side ports with the manifold header, correcting any causes of misalignment.
- Use flexible grooved-end pipe couplings (e.g., Victaulic® Style 77) at side ports, allowing a 0.125 inch gap, and position piping for maximum flexibility.
- Provide flexibility in and support for piping manifolds to allow vessel growth under pressure without undue restraint.
- Install overpressure protection set at not more than 105% of the design pressure.
- Regularly inspect end closures, replacing deteriorated components and correcting corrosion.
- Lubricate seals sparingly with non-petroleum based lubricants (e.g., Parker Super O-lube®, Glycerin, or suitable silicone-based lubricants).
- Do not work on any component until verifying that pressure has been relieved from the vessel.
- Avoid rigid piping connections to ports or clamping the vessel in any way that resists the expansion of the fiberglass shell under pressure.
- Do not hang piping manifolds from ports or use the vessel to support other components.
- Do not overtighten Permeate Port connections (no more than one turn past hand tight).
- Ensure both Permeate Ports are connected internally to the full set of elements or otherwise plugged internally so external piping is not subjected to feed pressure.
- Do not install a Spacer on the downstream end of the vessel.
- Operate the vessel with the Thrust Cone installed downstream.
- Verify the Locking Ring is in place and fully seated before pressurizing the vessel.
- Do not operate the vessel at pressures or temperatures exceeding its rating.
- Do not operate the vessel with permeate pressure exceeding 125 psi at 190°F (0.86 MPa at 88°C).
- Do not tolerate leaks or allow end closures to be routinely wetted.
- Do not operate outside the pH range of 3-10.
