Summary

Product identification

This document describes 8 inch AnyChem™ Membrane Housings, which are Knappe Pressure Vessels.

Key features include:

  • AnyClic: A self-sealing endplate design.
  • AnyDistance: A system for adjusting shimming.

Mechanical / hydraulic

AnyClic Self-sealing Endplate

This system aims to facilitate works with a patent-pending design.

Components:

  • Segment Rings (1)
  • Endplate (2)
  • Locking Ring (3)
  • Lock Nut (4)
  • Lip Ring (5)
  • Front Plate (6)
  • Back Plate (7)
  • Permeate Port Body (8)
  • HP Port (9)
  • Spacer (referenced as (8) in assembly, might be a typo for (Permeate Port Body))

Assembly:

  1. Assemble Endplate (2) and Spacer (8).
  2. Put Endplate (2) and Spacer (8) into the pressure vessel. CAUTION: The Spacer (8) must be placed on the downstream side.
  3. Install the Segment Rings (1).
  4. Put on the Locking Ring (3) properly.
  5. Turn the Locking Ring (3) around in a clockwise direction. A plastic mallet can assist in fixing the Locking Ring by tapping the ear. The Locking Ring (3) will be fixed after a sound of click.
  6. Ensure that the Endplate (2), the Segment Rings (1), and the Locking Ring (3) are properly installed.
  7. The Lock Nut (4) should be hand-tightened.
  8. Raise the pressure as high as possible, always respecting the maximal operational pressure. During pressurization, the Back Plate (7) will push and spread the Lip Ring (5) forward, which will also push the permeate body forward.
  9. The Lock Nut (4) will become loose again.
  10. Hand-tighten the Lock Nut (4) again. This will keep the compression of the Lip Ring (5) against the walls of the vessel even after depressurization.

Disassembly:

  1. If changing the Endplate (2), raise the pressure as high as possible (respecting maximal operational pressure), and loosen the Lock Nut (4).
  2. Decrease the pressure to zero.
  3. Ensure there is no pressure in the vessel.
  4. Take off the Locking Ring (3) and Segment Rings (1). A plastic mallet can assist in loosening the Locking Ring by tapping the ear.
  5. Grasp the ears and pull out the Endplate (2).

AnyDistance

This system allows changing the Shimming Piston's distance against the membrane inside the pressure vessel without removing the whole Endplate, using a patent-pending design.

Components:

  • Shimming Rings (1)
  • Shimming Cover (2)
  • Union Nut (3)
  • Shimming Piston (4)

Adjustment:

  1. Put as many Shimming Rings as needed into the Permeate Port Body to fill the gap between the Shimming Piston and the Shimming Cover.
  2. Install the Shimming Cover (2) and tighten the Union Nut (3).
  3. After pressurization, the membrane(s) will be compressed, and the gap between the Shimming Piston and the first element will increase.
  4. Stop pressurization.
  5. Remove the Union Nut.
  6. Remove the Shimming Cover. CAUTION: Do not loosen or remove the Union Nut if the membrane housing is under pressure.
  7. Push the Shimming Piston against the membrane with an appropriate object.
  8. Add as many Shimming Rings as needed into the Permeate Port Body to adjust to the desired distance.
    • It is recommended to keep a distance of 4 – 6 mm between the lower edge of the groove and the top of the last Shimming Ring. This accounts for membrane dilatation with temperature.
    • CAUTION: This suggestion is based on a temperature of 10 °C. Contact your membrane manufacturer for more information regarding their specific products.
  9. Install the Shimming Cover (2) and tighten the Union Nut (3) again.
