Summary
Product identification
This overview details the MHA-8-40 series of medium pressure membrane housings designed for pressures up to 40 bar. These tubular pressure vessels feature collaring connections and are suitable for NF and RO filtration applications, particularly in the food and beverage industry for reducing microbials in liquid products like juice, beer, soy, whey, milk, milk powder, and chocolate.
The MHA-8-40 housings are designed to accommodate 7.9” x 38” (8038) membranes and are available in configurations from 1 to 6 elements. Two main connection arrangements are offered, designated as Model A or Model C, with other arrangements available upon request.
Operating limits
- Maximum Pressure: 40 barg
- Maximum Temperature: 70°C
Materials of construction
The membrane housing is constructed from EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel. It features a sanitary surface finish in accordance with the 3A sanitary standard.
- Inside Surface Roughness: ≤ 0.8 µm
- Outside Surface Roughness: ≤ 1.6 µm All fluid media must be compatible with EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) Stainless steel.
Certifications and compliance
The membrane housing is designed and manufactured in accordance with:
- European Commission regulation No. 2023/2006 (Good Manufacturing Practices)
- European Parliament directive No. EN 1935/2004 (Food Contact Materials)
- European Parliament directive No. EN 1907/2006 (Chemical Restrictions (REACH))
- PED - Article 4.3 (SEP) in the European Parliament directive No. 2014/68/EU (Pressure Equipment Directive) for fluid group 2 (non-dangerous fluids)
- 3-A Sanitary Standards 00-01 / 45-03

Mechanical / hydraulic
The MHA-8-40 series membrane housings are designed for 7.9" diameter (8038) membrane elements. The internal diameter (ID) for membrane elements is Ø28.9.
Connections:
- Feed and Retentate: Collaring connections, with sizes including Ø63.5, Ø51, DN50, 2.5", and 2". These require weld ends with a minimum 6 mm wall thickness, with welds conforming to 3-A Sanitary Standards 00-01 and inside welds ground to ≤ 0.8 μm.
- Permeate: Clamp ferrule connections, with sizes including Ø38, Ø25, DN40, DN25, 1.5", and 1". An SH clamp is recommended.
