Summary

Product Identification

This document provides an overview for Wila A/S Membrane Housings of type 'MHC-6-16', designed for low-pressure applications up to 16 bar. These are tubular pressure vessels with clamp ferrule connections, used in the food and beverage industry for microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) to reduce or eliminate microbials.

The membrane housings are designed for 6.3" x 38" (6338) membranes and can accommodate from 1 to 6 elements. Wila's own hygienic, easy-to-CIP clean, stainless steel ATDs (Anti-Telescoping Devices) can be supplied upon request, though membranes and ATDs are not part of the standard housing product.

Operating Limits

  • Maximum pressure: 16 barg
  • Maximum temperature: 70°C

Mechanical / Hydraulic

The Membrane Housing is constructed from EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel with a sanitary surface finish. All fluid media in use must be compatible with this material.

  • Surface Roughness:

    • Inside: ≤ 0.8 µm
    • Outside: ≤ 1.6 µm
  • Connections:

    • Type: Tri-clamp connections for Feed, Retentate, and Permeate.
    • Recommendation: SH clamps are recommended for 16 bar pressure rating.
    • Installation Guidance: The Membrane Housing should be installed with the Retentate outlet at the highest point for better air venting.
    • Feed and Retentate clamp ferrule connections (ISO 2852-2): Ø76, Ø63.5, Ø51, Ø38, Ø25.
    • Feed and Retentate clamp ferrule connections (DIN 32676-A): DN50, DN40, DN25.
    • Permeate end clamp ferrule connections: Ø38, Ø25, DN40, DN25.
    • Permeate internal diameter (ID): Ø28.9
  • Membrane Element Capacity:

    • 1-element: Volume 27 liters, Dry weight 25 kg
    • 2-elements: Volume 47 liters, Dry weight 35 kg
    • 3-elements: Volume 68 liters, Dry weight 45 kg
    • 4-elements: Volume 88 liters, Dry weight 55 kg
    • 5-elements: Volume 109 liters, Dry weight 65 kg
    • 6-elements: Volume 130 liters, Dry weight 75 kg

Detailed dimensions (TL, HL, CL, IL in millimeters) for specific models and connection arrangements (Model A and Model C) are available in the full PDF datasheet.

Regulations and Directives

The membrane housing is designed and manufactured in accordance with:

  • European Commission regulation No. 2023/2006 (Good Manufacturing Practices)
