Summary

Product identification

This overview describes the Wila Membrane Housing, type 'MHC-8-12', designed for low-pressure applications up to 12 bar. These housings are utilized in the food and beverage industry for microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) systems, aiming to reduce or eliminate microbials and extend product shelf life. They are suitable for liquid-containing products such as juice, beer, soy, whey, milk, milk powder, and chocolate.

The membrane housing is a tubular pressure vessel featuring a single Feed inlet on the shell side, an unfiltered Retentate outlet also on the shell side, and a filtered Permeate outlet from one of the end centers. Membranes and Anti-Telescoping Devices (ATDs) are not included but can be supplied separately.

Operating limits

  • Maximum Pressure: 12 barg
  • Maximum Temperature: 70°C

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Construction Material: EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel. All fluid media used with the housing must be compatible with this material.
  • Surface Finish:
    • Inside surface roughness: ≤ 0.8 µm
    • Outside surface roughness: ≤ 1.6 µm
  • Compatible Membrane Elements: Designed for 7.9" x 38" (8038) membrane elements. The housing can accommodate from 1 to 6 elements.
  • Connections:
    • Tri-clamp connections are used for Feed, Retentate, and Permeate.
    • Feed and Retentate clamp ferrule connections (YY): Available in sizes including Ø76, Ø63.5, Ø51 (in accordance with ISO 2852-2) and DN50, DN40 (in accordance with DIN 32676-A).
    • Permeate end clamp ferrule connection (ZZ): Available in sizes including Ø38, Ø25 (in accordance with ISO 2852-2) and DN40, DN25 (in accordance with DIN 32676-A).
    • SH clamps are recommended for 12 bar pressure rating.
    • The Membrane Housing should be installed with the Retentate outlet at the highest point for proper air venting.
  • Typical Physical Characteristics:
    • Permeate ID: Ø28.9 mm
    • Volume and Dry Weight (varies by number of elements):
      • 1-element: 41 liters, 30 kg
