Summary

Product identification

This document describes the Wila Tubular Liquid Cooler (TLC) series, specifically for medium pressure applications up to 40 bar.

Applications

Tubular Liquid Coolers are widely used in the food and beverage industry, as well as in applications like CIP units. They are employed for microbial reduction to ensure product safety and extend shelf life, and for heating or cooling products before various processing steps.

General Description

The TLC heat exchanger consists of two pressure chambers:

  • Tube side (Product side): The inner chamber containing the tubes of the tube bundle.
  • Shell side (Service side): The outer pressure chamber formed by the shell and the outside of the tube bundle.

The heat exchanger is designed for fluid-to-fluid heat transfer (heating or cooling) and is constructed from EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) stainless steel with a sanitary surface finish.

  • Tube side surface roughness: ≤ 0.8 µm
  • Outside surface roughness: ≤ 1.6 µm

All fluid media must be compatible with EN 1.4404 (AISI 316L) Stainless Steel.

Operating Limits

  • Maximum product side pressure: 40 bar[g] / 40 barg
  • Maximum product side temperature: 85°C
  • Maximum service side pressure: 16 bar[g]
  • Maximum service side temperature: 95°C

The design is based on a Ø129x2mm or Ø209x3mm shell, with other sizes and pressure ratings available.

Regulations and Directives

The heat exchanger is designed and manufactured in accordance with:

  • European Commission regulation No. 2023/2006 (Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • European Parliament directive No. EN 1935/2004 (Food Contact Materials)
  • European Parliament directive No. EN 1907/2006 (Chemical Restrictions (REACH))
  • PED - Article 4.3 (SEP) in the European Parliament directive No. 2014/68/EU (Pressure Equipment Directive). Designed for fluid group 2 (non-dangerous fluids).

Documentation

The following documentation is typically provided:

  1. Customer drawing with description and design data table
  2. Declaration of conformity
  3. Pressure test certificate
  4. User Manual

Optional supplementary documents include: 5. 3.1 material certificates according to EN 10204 6. Weld-logs with associated welding certificates according to DS/EN ISO 9601-1.
