Application Details

  • Conductivity: as of 0.02 mS/cm
  • Temperature Range: –40 °C to 200 °C
  • Pressure Range: up to 50 bar
  • Features: Can be used for overfill protection with line monitoring (even in Ex-area Zone 0), minimum or maximum detection in tanks, pump protection in pipes, and two-point control.

Key Benefits

  • Cooling adapter available for fluid temperatures ≥ 100 °C.
  • Subsequent probe length shortening is possible.
  • WHG and ATEX II 1/2 G approvals.
  • Can be connected to switching units FTW325, FTW470Z, FTW570Z.
  • Features safety line monitoring.
  • Long operating life due to no moving parts.
  • Cost-effective for conductive liquids.

Measuring Principle

The probe operates on the principle of conductive level limit detection. An alternating voltage is supplied by a transmitter. When the conductive liquid connects the probe rod to the tank wall, a measurable current flows, triggering the sensor. Alternating voltage prevents probe corrosion and electrolytic corrosion of the medium.

Measuring System

The system typically consists of:

  • 11375Z probe
  • A switching unit (e.g., FTW325, FTW470Z, FTW570Z)
  • Controllers, switch transmitters, or signal transmitters (e.g., PLC, relays).

Input

  • Measured Variable: Change in resistance between tank wall and probe rod due to the presence/absence of conductive product (limit value, binary).
  • Measuring Range (Detection Range): Depends on probe mounting location.
  • Maximum Probe Length: 2000 mm.

Output

  • Switching Units: Nivotester FTW325, FTW470Z, FTW570Z.
  • Output Signal: Relay output with floating change-over contacts for level alarms.
  • Line Monitoring: Available for WHG approval; requires removal if connected to transmitters that do not support line monitoring.

Electrical Connection

  • Standard/ATEX: 2 terminals for core cross-section up to 2.5 mm² in the housing.
  • With Line Monitoring: Supplied with a 2 m captive twin-core cable.
  • Cable Entry: PG16 cable gland suitable for cable diameters from 7 mm to 12 mm.
  • Terminals: Designed for strands up to 2.5 mm² with wire end ferrules; central terminal for probe rod, lateral terminal for earth connection.
  • Cable Specifications: Use standard commercial cable (25 Ω per core). Screened cable recommended in cases of strong electromagnetic influence.

Installation

  • Mounting Location: Preferably vertical from above. For lateral mounting, the probe tip should point slightly downwards.
  • Cooling Adapter: Recommended for fluid temperatures ≥ 100 °C.
  • Probe Length: Can be shortened to any length. Ensure insulation is not damaged and at least 20 mm of the tip is exposed after shortening. No mechanical strain should be applied during shortening.

Operating Conditions

  • Ambient Temperature Range:
    • Standard: –40 °C to +200 °C (depends on connecting cable and seal).
    • ATEX: –40 °C to +135 °C (depends on connecting cable and seal).
    • WHG (with line monitoring): –20 °C to +65 °C.
  • Storage Temperature:
    • Standard: –40 °C to +80 °C.
    • With line monitoring: –20 °C to +65 °C.
  • Degree of Protection: IP55 as per EN 60529.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility: Refer to connected Nivotester FTW limit switch documentation and TI241F/00/en for details.

Process Conditions

  • Medium Temperature Range: Varies based on ambient temperature, cooling adapter usage, and interior housing temperature. Diagrams illustrate relationships for Standard, ATEX, and WHG configurations.
  • Conductivity: Minimum 0.02 mS/cm.
  • Process Material Pressure Limits:
    • Standard: –1 bar to +50 bar.
    • ATEX + WHG: Refer to explosion protection directives and certificates.
