Summary

Product identification

The Cleanfit CPA474 is a retractable plastic process assembly with a ball valve, designed for pH and ORP electrodes. It is suitable for applications in the chemical industry, wastewater/industrial water, power plants, and refuse incinerators where safe separation from the process is required during service or for media that tend to stick to the electrode holder.

Features and Benefits

  • Safety:
    • Process isolation via a ball valve.
    • Materials in contact with the medium are exclusively plastics (PP, PVDF, PEEK).
    • A stainless steel version is available for high-temperature and high-pressure applications.
  • Operation:
    • Assembly can be serviced while the process is running, with full disassembly possible when the ball valve is closed.
    • Various immersion depths are available for tank or pipe installation.
    • Sealing water can be used to screen off the rinse chamber.
  • Automation:
    • Fully automatic calibration and cleaning are possible in conjunction with the Topcal CPC310.
  • Installation:
    • Versions with pneumatic ball valve drives are available with all hoses pre-installed.

Operating Modes

The assembly can switch between "Measure" and "Service" operating statuses manually or pneumatically. Pneumatic operation can be controlled via Topcal CPC310 or Topclean CPC30 with an optional CPR40 rinsing block. Limit position switches are available for all versions.

The sequence for moving between states is:

  • Service to Measure: Open ball valve, then move assembly.
  • Measure to Service: Move assembly, then close ball valve.

In the "Service" status, the ball valve isolates the assembly from the process, allowing for cleaning, calibration, or electrode replacement without interrupting the process.

Sealing System

The assembly utilizes O-rings for sealing between the pneumatic drive and the rinse chamber. The process side of the ball valve can be equipped with an optional scraper. Caution is advised as process pressure acts on the rinse connections when the assembly is in the service position with the ball valve open. Inlet and outlet safety seals for the rinse chamber are recommended.

Limit Position Switches

Limit position switches are available in pneumatic and electric versions to control the operational sequence.

  • Pneumatic: 4 pneumatic switches.
  • Electric: 3 pneumatic and 2 inductive switches.

Installation

Requirements for Pneumatic Operation

  • Air pressure: 4 to 6 bar (60 to 90 psi).
  • Air quality: Filtered (40 μm), free of water and oil.
  • Air supply: No continuous air consumption.
  • Minimum nominal diameter of air lines: 4 mm (0.16 inches).
  • A pressure-reducing valve is required if air pressure can exceed 6 bar (90 psi). A pneumatic throttle is recommended for smoother operation.

Environmental Conditions

  • Ambient Temperature: Not below 0 °C (32 °F). With an optional inlet/outlet safety seal, the ambient temperature must not exceed 80 °C (176 °F).

Process Conditions

  • Pressure:
    • PA pressure cylinder: Max. 6 bar (87 psi).
    • Stainless steel pressure cylinder: Max. 10 bar (145 psi) at 40 °C (104 °F).
    • Pneumatic outlet safety seal: Continuous operation: 10 bar (145 psi) / 40 °C (104 °F); Short time (max. 1 h): 4 bar (72.5 psi) / 130 °C (266 °F).
    • Manual outlet safety seal: 10 bar (145 psi) / 20 °C (68 °F), 2 bar (29 psi) / 130 °C (266 °F).
    • Caution: During insertion/retraction, the process pressure must not exceed 4 bar (58 psi) for manually actuated assemblies.
  • Temperature: See pressure-temperature diagrams.
  • Flow Velocity: Max. 3 m/s (9.8 ft/s). Exceeding 2 to 3 m/s (6.5 to 9.8 ft/s) may cause measurable potentials at the electrode.

Mechanical Construction

The assembly is available in short and long versions, with pneumatic or manual operation. Dimensions vary based on the version.

  • Weight: 3 - 8 kg (6.6 - 17.6 lb), depending on materials and configuration.

Materials

  • In contact with medium: Seals (EPDM / FPM / perfluoroelastomer), Electrode holder (PP / PEEK / PVDF), Ball valve (PP / PVDF), Inlet safety seal (PVDF, PTFE, Viton®), Outlet safety seal (PVDF), Rinse connection socket (PVDF).
  • Not in contact with medium: Pressure cylinder (PA / stainless steel 1.4404 (AISI 316 L)), Process flange (stainless steel 1.4404 (AISI 316 L)), Electrical limit position switch fore-part (PBT, cable PVC).

Optional Equipment

Various safety seals, rinse connection sockets, and limit position switches can be added.

Accessories

Available accessories include process adapters, packing sleeves, water filters, pressure reducers, rinse connection adapters, pneumatic throttles, hose connection sets, limit position switches, and safety seals.

Sensors

The CPA474 can accommodate various sensors, including:

  • Glass Electrodes: Orbisint CPS11/CPS11D (pH), Orbisint CPS12/CPS12D (ORP).
  • ISFET Sensors: Tophit CPS471/CPS471D, Tophit CPS441/CPS441D, Tophit CPS491/CPS491D.

Sensors are available in different lengths for short and long versions of the CPA474.
