Measuring Principle

The analyzer employs a colorimetric method. A specific color reagent is added to the sample, causing a color change. A multispectral photometer measures the absorption of light at defined wavelengths. The degree of light absorption is proportional to the nitrite concentration. A reference measurement is performed to compensate for interference influences.

Nitrite Determination:

  • Method: Naphthylamine method according to DIN EN 26777.
  • Reaction: Nitrite ions react with sulfanilamide and N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine to form a red dye.
  • Measurement Wavelength: 568 nm.

Cross-sensitivity: No cross-sensitivities were observed up to the following concentrations:

  • 1000 mg/l (ppm): Cl⁻, SO₄²⁻
  • 500 mg/l (ppm): Na⁺, K⁺, Ca²⁺
  • 50 mg/l (ppm): CO₃²⁻, NO₃⁻, Fe²⁺, Fe³⁺, Zn²⁺

Measuring System

A complete measuring system includes the Liquiline System CA80NO analyzer, reagent, cleaner and standard solutions (ordered separately), and optionally, a sample conditioning unit (Liquiline System CAT8x0). Various sample preparation options are available, including microfiltration (CAT810) and membrane filtration (CAT820, CAT860).

Reagent Cooling Module (Optional)

An optional smart, energy-efficient cooling module for reagents is available. It uses a Peltier cooler and can extend reagent life up to 12 weeks, making it recommended for ambient temperatures above 20 °C (68 °F).
