Summary

Product identification

Memosens CPS76E pH/ORP sensor for process technology with Memosens 2.0 technology.

Application

Designed for process technology and monitoring of processes with:

  • Rapidly changing pH values
  • High proportion of electrode poisons such as H₂S

Approvals for hazardous areas include ATEX, IECEx, CSA C/US, NEPSI, Japan Ex, and INMETRO for Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2.

Features and Benefits

  • Simultaneous measurement of pH, ORP, and rH value (in rH mode).
  • Platinum electrode for measuring reference impedance.
  • Acrylamide-free gel bridging electrolyte, sterilizable and resistant to chemical corrosion.
  • Suitable for CIP/SIP cleaning and autoclavable.
  • Long service life due to poison-resistant reference with ion trap.
  • Integrated NTC 30K temperature sensor for effective temperature compensation.
  • Glass breakage and blockage detection by measuring:
    • Resistance of glass membrane
    • Reference impedance
  • Memosens technology provides:
    • Maximum process safety via non-contact, inductive signal transmission.
    • Digital data transmission for data security.
    • Easy handling as sensor data are saved in the sensor.
    • Predictive maintenance through recording sensor load data.

Measuring Principles

  • pH Measurement: Utilizes the electrochemical potential generated by the membrane glass, which depends on the H⁺ ion accumulation. An integrated Ag/AgCl reference system is used. The Nernst equation converts measured voltage to the pH value.
  • ORP Measurement: Measures the potential using a platinum or gold electrode, with an integrated Ag/AgCl reference system.
  • rH Measurement: Calculated using the formula: rH = 2 * (mV/S) + 2 pH. Requires simultaneous measurement of pH and ORP.
    • rH values indicate the oxidation or reducing power of a process solution.
    • 0 to 9: Strong reducing power
    • 9 to 17: Weak reducing power
    • 17 to 25: Undetermined medium
    • 25 to 34: Weak oxidizing power
    • 34 to 42: Strong oxidizing power

Measuring System Components

A complete measuring system includes:

  • pH/ORP sensor CPS76E
  • Memosens data cable CYK10 or CYK20
  • Transmitter (e.g., Liquiline CM44, Liquiline CM42)
  • Assembly (e.g., immersion, flow, retractable, permanent installation)
  • Optional: Automatic cleaning and calibration system.

Communication and Data Processing

  • Digital sensors with Memosens technology must be connected to Memosens-compatible transmitters.
  • Sensor data stored include: Manufacturer data, serial number, order code, calibration data, application data, operational history, etc.
  • This data can be displayed with specific Endress+Hauser transmitters and software.

Input

Measured Variable

  • pH value
  • ORP
  • rH value
  • Temperature

Measuring Range

  • ORP: –1500 to 1500 mV
  • Application B:
    • pH: 0 to 14
