Summary

Product identification

The Memosens Wave CAS80E is a spectrometer designed for water analysis. It utilizes UV-VIS spectroscopy (200 to 800 nm) to measure various parameters.

Application

The CAS80E is suitable for reliable measurements and efficient process monitoring in:

  • Drinking water
  • Wastewater
  • Surface water

It can measure the following parameters:

  • SAC (Spectral Absorption Coefficient)
  • TOCeq (Total Organic Carbon equivalent)
  • CODeq (Chemical Oxygen Demand equivalent)
  • BODeq (Biochemical Oxygen Demand equivalent)
  • Turbidity (TU/TSS)
  • Nitrate (NO₃-N, NO₃)
  • APHA Hazen color

Features and Benefits

  • Optimally adapted to process conditions.
  • Available with 3 different measuring path lengths (2 mm, 10 mm, 50 mm).
  • Titanium version available for demanding applications.
  • Sapphire window for extended operating life.
  • Data conditioning within the spectrometer for minimal interference during signal transmission.
  • Short response time and early detection of load peaks.
  • "Plug and play" functionality with standardized Memosens technology.
  • Long maintenance intervals due to compressed air cleaning option.
  • Application-specific and customer calibrations possible.

Function and system design

Measuring principle

The spectrometer employs a two-beam principle with lamp change compensation. A Xenon strobe lamp emits light, which passes through the medium in a measurement gap and is then analyzed by the spectrometer module. The instrument measures the substance-specific absorption of electromagnetic radiation to determine measurement parameters from the recorded spectrum.

The absorption (A) is calculated as: A = -log₁₀ (I/I₀) = ε . c . d where:

  • I is the measuring spectrum intensity
  • I₀ is the zero spectrum intensity (measured in ultrapure water)
  • ε is the extinction coefficient
  • c is the concentration
  • d is the measurement gap length

Analytical models programmed into the spectrometer calculate concentrations from absorption spectra. These models account for "cross-sensitivities" between different parameters.

Measuring system

A complete measuring system typically includes:

  • Memosens Wave CAS80E spectrometer
  • Liquiline CM44x transmitter
  • Assembly (e.g., Flowfit CYA251 flow assembly)

Communication and data processing

The CAS80E uses Memosens technology for digital communication with a compatible transmitter. Data such as manufacturer details, calibration data, and operating history are stored within the sensor and automatically transferred to the transmitter upon connection. This enables easy calibration independent of the measuring point and facilitates predictive maintenance.
