Application

The TOCII CA72TOC is designed for:

  • Monitoring of industrial wastewater (inlet and outlet)
  • Control of process wastewater
  • Monitoring of surface run-off in industrial systems and airports
  • Municipal wastewater monitoring
  • Measurement of carbon load for nutrient dosing

Benefits

  • Optimized for industrial applications with fluctuating pH and high salt loads.
  • Facilitates fast and easy maintenance with accessible components.
  • Offers selectable measuring ranges from 0.25 mg/l to 12,000 mg/l TOC, expandable by predilution.
  • Features pH-controlled acid dosing for TIC stripping, minimizing acid consumption.
  • Employs a "double-batch" method for measurement.
  • Available with one- and two-channel measurement options.
  • Includes a heated salt trap to significantly increase operating time.
  • Supports externally controlled self-monitoring with a TOC standard for limit violation.

Function and system design

Measuring principle

The analyzer determines Total Organic Carbon (TOC) by thermic catalytic combustion followed by NDIR detection of the resulting CO₂. The process involves an optional sample dilution for high salt loads or TOC values, acidification to eliminate inorganic carbon (TIC) via stripping, particulate solid removal, and subsequent incineration at 850 °C. The CO₂ content is then measured. The "double-batch" method ensures the reactor and gas circuit are flushed with CO₂-free carrier gas before the next measurement, establishing a baseline.

Measurement, calibration, and adjustment

  • Single-point calibration can be triggered externally or by timer.
  • Two-point adjustment is available to adapt the analyzer to system changes.

Two-channel measuring principle

Allows measurement of two different sample streams within a single device, suitable for sample streams with similar measuring ranges.

Heated salt trap

Increases operating time by efficiently removing salts from the furnace, reducing buildup. Allows easy removal and cleaning of the trap without shutting down the furnace.

pH-controlled acid dosing

Adds only the necessary amount of acid to reach a pH of 2.5, reducing acid consumption and salt release into the furnace. Prevents humic acid precipitation in municipal wastewater.

Double-batch method

Links water and gas circuits, preparing the aqueous sample continuously and feeding it to the furnace in batches. Circulates and accumulates CO₂-containing gas for measurement, enabling the recording of large sample volumes (1200 µl) for high sensitivity.
