  • Pressure range: Up to 50 bar (725 psi)
  • Protection class: Up to IP69K

Feed water

Measured variable

  • Temperature (temperature-linear transmission behavior)

Measuring range

The measuring range depends on the type of sensor used:

  • Pt100 thin-film: –50 to +400 °C (–58 to +752 °F)
  • Pt100 thin-film, iTHERM StrongSens (vibration-resistant > 60g): –50 to +500 °C (–58 to +932 °F)
  • Pt100 thin-film, iTHERM QuickSens (fast-response): –50 to +200 °C (–58 to +392 °F)
  • Pt100 wire wound, extended measuring range: –200 to +600 °C (–328 to +1 112 °F)

Electrical

Output signal

The measured value can be transmitted via:

  • Directly-wired sensors.
  • Endress+Hauser iTEMP temperature transmitters using common protocols:
    • 4 to 20 mA analog output, HART® (optional HART® SIL transmitter)
    • PROFIBUS® PA
    • FOUNDATION Fieldbus™
    • PROFINET® over Ethernet-APL
    • IO-Link®

Power supply

  • Electrical connecting cables must be smooth, corrosion-resistant, and easy to clean, according to 3-A Sanitary Standard and EHEDG.
  • Grounding or shield connections are possible via special ground terminals on the terminal head.

Mechanical / hydraulic

Design

  • Terminal head: Available in 316L (low head, optional display), Aluminum (high or low head, with/without display), Polypropylene (low head), and Polyamide (high head). Offers optimal terminal access, optional local display, and IP69K protection.
  • Wiring, electrical connection, output signal: Ceramic terminal block or flying leads. Head transmitters with single or two-channel options. Attachable display is optional.
  • Plug or cable gland: Polyamide or brass cable glands. M12 or 7/8" plugs available for various protocols.
  • Extension neck: Welded-in-place or removable with iTHERM QuickNeck (tool-free insert removal) or thread adapter nut G3/8".
  • Process connection: Over 50 different versions available.
  • Thermowell: Versions with and without thermowell, various diameters, and tip shapes (straight or reduced).
  • Insert: Features include iTHERM QuickSens (fast response time, t90s: 1.5 s) and iTHERM StrongSens (vibration resistance > 60g). Sensor types include wire wound (WW) or thin-film (TF). Insert diameters of ⌀3 mm (¹⁄₈ in) or ⌀6 mm (¹⁄₄ in).

Sensor Technology Features

  • iTHERM QuickSens: Fastest response times.
  • iTHERM StrongSens: Unsurpassed vibration resistance (> 60g).
  • iTHERM QuickNeck: Enables simple, tool-free recalibration.

Materials

  • Terminal head: 316L, Aluminum, Polypropylene, Polyamide.
  • Surface roughness: Not specified, but hygienic standards apply.

Response time

Test performed in water at 0.4 m/s with a 10 K temperature change. Values for t50 and t90 vary significantly based on insert type, thermowell presence, and tip shape.

  • Example (with heat transfer paste, without thermowell, ⌀3 mm insert, iTHERM QuickSens): t90 = 1.5 s
  • Example (without heat transfer paste, without thermowell, ⌀3 mm insert, iTHERM QuickSens): t90 = 0.75 s

Calibration

  • Calibration can be performed at fixed-point temperatures or against a reference thermometer.
  • Endress+Hauser offers thermometer evaluation and sensor-transmitter matching services.
  • Standard calibrations are available from –80 to +600 °C (–112 to +1 112 °F) based on ITS90.
  • Minimum insertion lengths are required for accurate calibration, depending on temperature.

Insulation resistance

  • ≥ 100 MΩ at ambient temperature, measured between terminals and outer jacket with a minimum voltage of 100 VDC.

Mounting and Installation

  • Orientation: No restrictions, but self-draining must be guaranteed.
  • Immersion length: Ideally corresponds to half the pipe diameter. Minimum immersion lengths are recommended based on sensor type.
  • Hygiene: Adherence to EHEDG and 3-A Sanitary Standard requirements is critical for installation.

Environment

  • Ambient temperature range:
    • Terminal head (without mounted transmitter): Depends on terminal head and cable gland/connector.
    • Terminal head (with mounted transmitter): –40 to +85 °C (–40 to +185 °F).
    • Terminal head (with mounted transmitter and display): –20 to +70 °C (–4 to +158 °F).
    • Extension neck (Quick-fastening iTHERM QuickNeck): –50 to +140 °C (–58 to +284 °F).
