Summary

Product identification

The Endress+Hauser iTHERM ModuLine TM412 is a modular resistance thermometer designed for hygienic and aseptic applications in the Food & Beverages and Life Sciences industries. It utilizes a spring-loaded insert and is compatible with Pt100 temperature sensors according to IEC 60751.

Applications

  • Hygienic and aseptic applications in the Food & Beverages and Life Sciences industries.
  • Measuring range: –200 to +600 °C (–328 to +1 112 °F).
  • Pressure range: up to 40 bar (580 psi).
  • Protection class: up to IP69K.

Input

Measured variable

  • Temperature (temperature-linear transmission behavior).

Measuring range

The measuring range depends on the type of sensor used:

  • Pt100 thin-film: –50 to +200 °C (–58 to +392 °F)
  • Pt100 thin-film, iTHERM StrongSens (vibration-resistant > 60g): –50 to +500 °C (–58 to +932 °F)
  • Pt100 thin-film, iTHERM QuickSens (fast-response): –50 to +200 °C (–58 to +392 °F)
  • Pt100 wire wound (extended measuring range): –200 to +600 °C (–328 to +1 112 °F)

Output

Output signal

The measured value can be transmitted directly-wired or via Endress+Hauser iTEMP temperature transmitters using various protocols:

  • Analog output 4 to 20 mA, HART®
  • PROFIBUS® PA
  • FOUNDATION Fieldbus™
  • Bluetooth® connectivity (optional)
  • IO-Link®
  • PROFINET® with Ethernet-APL

Transmitters offer enhanced accuracy and reliability compared to directly wired sensors, with options for displays, bargraphs, and fault indication.

Response time

Tests in water at 0.4 m/s (1.3 ft/s), according to IEC 60751; 10 K temperature step change (response time without heat transfer paste, with thermowell). See the official PDF for exact tabulated values.

Installation

Orientation

No restrictions, but self-draining in the process must be guaranteed.

Installation instructions

  • Recommended immersion depth depends on sensor type and insert design to minimize heat dissipation errors.
  • For pipes, immersion depth should ideally be half the pipe diameter.
  • Observe installation instructions in Ex documentation for ATEX certification.
  • Minimum immersion lengths are recommended for calibration and to ensure transmitter functionality.

Environment

Ambient temperature range

  • Terminal head (without transmitter): Depends on terminal head, cable gland, or fieldbus connector.
  • Terminal head (with head transmitter): –40 to 85 °C (–40 to 185 °F). SIL mode: –40 to 70 °C (–40 to 158 °F).
  • Terminal head (with head transmitter and display): –20 to 70 °C (–4 to 158 °F).
  • Field transmitter (without display): –40 to 85 °C (–40 to 185 °F).
  • Field transmitter (with display): –40 to +80 °C (–40 to +176 °F). SIL mode: –40 to +75 °C (–40 to +167 °F).
  • Extension neck (iTHERM QuickNeck): –50 to +140 °C (–58 to +284 °F).

Humidity

  • Condensation permitted as per IEC 60 068-2-33.
  • Maximum relative humidity: 95% as per IEC 60068-2-30.

Degree of protection

  • Max. IP69K, depending on the design.

Shock and vibration resistance

  • Standard inserts (Pt100 WW or TF): 30 m/s² (3g) 1)
