Engineering summary from PDF text extraction for Omnigrad-S TR15, TC15. Verify every value with the OEM datasheet.

Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Omnigrad S - TC 15
  • Type: Thermocouple thermometer with replaceable insert and bar stock thermowell.
  • Electronics Options: PCP (4...20 mA), HART®, or PROFIBUS-PA®.
  • Standards: Modular configuration and structure defined in DIN 43772 (form 4/4F).

Areas of application

Designed for heavy industrial processes, particularly in applications involving steam and gases at high pressures and temperatures. Sectors include:

  • Chemical industry
  • Energy industry

Function and system design

Measuring principle

Utilizes the Seebeck effect where a temperature difference between the "hot" (measurement) junction and the "cold" (reference) junction of two dissimilar homogeneous metal wires generates an electromotive force. Cold junction compensation to 0°C is required. Thermocouple curves comply with DIN EN 60584 and ANSI MC96.1 standards for industrial readings.

Equipment architecture

The sensor comprises a measurement probe (replaceable insert) within a thermowell, and a housing. Construction is based on DIN 43729 (housing), 43772 (thermowell), and 43735 (probe). The insert is spring-loaded for improved heat transfer.

  • Thermowell Diameter: 18 mm or 24 mm.
  • Thermowell Tip Diameter: 9 mm or 12.5 mm.
  • Insert Diameter: 3 mm or 6 mm.
  • Process Connection: Weld-in or flanged.
  • Housing Materials: Plastic, painted aluminium alloy, or stainless steel, with IP65 minimum.

Material

  • Wetted parts: SS 316Ti/1.4571 or 13CrMo4-5/1.7335.

Performance

Operating conditions

  • Ambient temperature (housing without transmitter):
    • Metal housings: -40 to 130°C
    • Plastic housings: -40 to 85°C
  • Ambient temperature (housing with transmitter): -40 to 85°C
  • Ambient temperature (housing with display): -20 to 70°C
  • Process temperature (restricted by thermowell material):
    • SS 316 Ti/1.4571: < 800°C
    • 13CrMo4-5/1.7335: < 800°C

Maximum process pressure

Pressure values are dependent on temperature and thermowell type, as illustrated in figures and Table 1.

Maximum flow velocity

Diminishes with increasing exposed length of the well/probe. Information available in figure 2.

Shock and vibration resistance

According to DIN EN 60751: 3 g peak / 10–500 Hz.

Accuracy

Thermocouple tolerances

Tolerances are defined by DIN EN 60584 and ANSI MC96.1 standards. See Table 2 for details on Class 1/special accuracy for types J and K.

Transmitter maximum error

See the corresponding documentation for head-mounted transmitters.

Display maximum error

0.1% of the set span + 1 digit.

Measurement range

Defined ranges are shown in Table 3.

Response time

Tests in water at 0.4 m/s (23 to 33°C) according to DIN EN 60751 are detailed in Table 4 for various stem diameters, thermocouple types, and junction configurations.

Insulation

  • Insulation resistance between terminals and probe sheath: > 1 GΩ at 25°C, > 5 MΩ at 500°C (according to DIN EN 60584, test voltage 500 V).

Installation

  • Can be installed on pipes, tanks, and other plant parts.
  • Interface components and gaskets are customer's responsibility.
  • Immersion depth: Crucial for accuracy; recommended minimum immersion depth of 100–150 mm. Probe tip should reach or slightly exceed the duct axis in small pipes.
  • Corrosion: SS 316Ti/1.4571 tolerates common corrosive media up to high temperatures.
  • Electromagnetic noise: Grounded hot junction is not recommended.
  • Thermowell testing for specific operating conditions is available upon request.

System components

Housing

Available in plastic, painted aluminium alloy, and stainless steel. Minimum IP65 grade ensured by coupling and cable gland. Complies with DIN 43729 (form B). Connection: M24x1.5. Various housing types (TA20A, TA20B, TA21E, TA20D, TA20J, TA20R, TA20W) offer different features and IP grades.

Head transmitter

Available head-mounted transmitters:

  • TMT 181: PCP 4…20 mA
  • TMT 182: Smart HART®
  • TMT 184: PROFIBUS-PA®

Transmitters are programmable using PC software (ReadWin® 2000, FieldCare, CommuWin II) or a HART® communicator (DXR 275). PROFIBUS-PA® requires dedicated connectors.

Extension neck

Tube of 11 mm in SS 316Ti/1.4571.

  • Lower connection: M14x1.5 (for 18 mm thermowells) or M18x1.5 (for 24 mm thermowells).
  • Length (E): 155 mm (for L=110 mm thermowell) or 165 mm (for other lengths).
  • Upper connection allows head orientation.

Process connection

  • Standard types: Weld-in, ANSI B16.5 cl. 150 and 300 RF flange, EN 1092 flange.
  • Thermowell marked near connection per DIN 43772.

Probe

Mineral oxide (MgO) insulated insert.

  • Insert length (IL): Available in standard DIN 43772 dimensions or can be personalized. Must comply with thermowell immersion length (L).
  • Thermowell diameter 18 mm: Maximum length (L) of 200 mm.

Certificates & Approvals

  • PED approval: Complies with Pressure Equipment Directive (97/23/CE).
  • Material certification: 3.1.B (EN 10204) available for wetted parts. "Short form" certificate also available.
  • Test on thermowell: Hydrostatic internal/external pressure tests and dye penetrant tests can be performed.

Maintenance

No specific maintenance required for Omnigrad S thermometers.

Delivery time

For small quantities (10–15 units) and standard options: 10 to 15 days.
