Summary
Product Identification
- Product Name: Omnigrad TA575, TA576
- Product Type: Industrial thermowell for temperature measurement technology
- Document Number: TI01128T/09/EN/02.24-00
- Document Date: 2024-01-15
Application
The TA575 and TA576 are heavy-duty, general-purpose thermowells manufactured from round barstock with a welded connection flange. They are designed for use with resistance and thermocouple thermometers in demanding applications. Various non-destructive tests are conducted to ensure quality.
Features & Benefits
- Manufactured from round barstock.
- Process connection is a flange, either welded on both sides or with a full penetration weld.
- Available in straight, conical, or conically tapered tip shapes.
- Extension, immersion length, and dimensions can be selected based on process requirements.
- Wide range of standard materials and flange connections available.
- Customized versions can be manufactured to specifications.
Installation
- Mounting Location: Can be installed in pipelines, tanks, or vessels.
- Orientation: No restrictions.
- Installation Instructions:
- For small cross-section pipes, the sensor tip should reach or slightly extend past the pipe axis.
- Recommended minimum immersion length is 80 to 100 mm (3.15 to 3.94 in).
- Immersion length should be at least eight times the thermowell diameter.
- Immersion length influences measurement accuracy; insufficient length can lead to errors from heat conduction.
Process Limits
- Process Temperature Range: Refer to the 'Material' section for maximum operating temperatures.
- Pressure Range:
- Flange (EN1092-1): Depending on the flange pressure rating (PNxx), 16 bar or 40 bar.
- Flange (ASME B16.5): Depending on the flange pressure rating, 150 psi, 300 psi, or 600 psi.
- Permitted Flow Velocity: Decreases with increasing immersion length and depends on thermowell shape/size, medium, process temperature, and pressure. A thermowell sizing tool is available via Endress+Hauser Applicator software.
Mechanical Construction
- Design & Dimensions: All dimensions are in mm (in).
- Shapes: Continuous straight with flat bottom, conical with flat bottom, conical and tapered with flat bottom.
- Dimensions: Includes bottom thickness (D), bore diameter (F1), outer diameter (Q1), root tip diameter (Q2), taper length (R), connection to thermometer (S), extension (T), and immersion length (U).
- Thermometer Connection Thread: Standard is ½" NPT, ½" NPSM, or ½" NPSC.
- Screw-in Length: 8 mm (0.31 in).

Process Connections (Flanges)
- Material: Flanges are supplied in stainless steel AISI 316L (1.4404 or 1.4435).
- Standards: Available in DIN, EN (DIN EN 1092-1), ASME (ASME B16.5), JIS (B2220), and HG/T standards.
- Sealing Surface Geometry: Various forms are available including without raised face, with raised face, tongue, groove, projection, recess, and ring-type joint. Specific surface roughness values (Rz or Ra) are provided for each form and standard.
- Raised Face Height: Varies by standard (DIN EN 1092-1, ASME B16.5, JIS B2220) and size (DN or Class).
- Dimensional Tables: Detailed dimensions (D, b, K, d, L) and approximate weights are provided for EN, ASME, and HG/T flanges across various pressure ratings (PN16, PN25, PN40, PN63, PN100, Class 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500).
Thermowell Tip
- Shape: Straight, conical, or conically tapered.
- Bottom Thickness: 5 mm (0.2 in) or 6 mm (0.25 in).
Material
- Thermowell & Process Connection:
- AISI 316/1.4401: Max. 650 °C (1202 °F). General corrosion resistance, good in chlorine-based and acidic non-oxidizing atmospheres due to molybdenum.
- AISI 316L/1.4404/1.4435: Max. 650 °C (1202 °F). Similar to 316 but with increased resistance to intergranular corrosion and pitting. 1.4435 offers higher corrosion resistance and lower delta ferrite content.
- AISI 316Ti/1.4571: Max. 700 °C (1292 °F). Properties comparable to 316L with enhanced intergranular corrosion resistance due to titanium. Suitable for chemical, petrochemical, and oil industries. Limited polishability.
- AISI A105/1.0460 (C22.8): Max. 450 °C (842 °F). Heat-resistant steel, suitable for low-oxygen, nitrogen-containing atmospheres; not for acids. Common in boilers, water/steam pipes, and pressure vessels.
- Nickel-based Materials (Alloy600, Alloy C276) with Flange: For cost reasons, only the raised face of the thermowell is made of the alloy, welded onto a 316L flange.
