Measuring principle
Utilizes the Seebeck effect, where a voltage is generated when two dissimilar electrical conductors are subjected to a thermal gradient. The magnitude of this voltage depends on the conductor materials and the temperature difference between the measuring junction and the cold junction.

Installation
Installation conditions
- Orientation: No restrictions.
- Insertion length:
- At least 10 times the cable sensor diameter (⌀D) for bendable version.
- At least 30 times the cable sensor diameter for non-bendable version.
- A standard insertion length of > 60 mm (2.36 in) is recommended for the bendable version and > 180 mm (7.1 in) for the non-bendable version.
- Installation in a thermowell is not recommended.
- Bendable cable sensor: Bending radius R > 15 mm (0.6 in).
Environment
Ambient temperature range
Depends on the connecting cable material:
- PVC / PVC: 80 °C (176 °F)
- Glass fiber / glass fiber: 400 °C (751 °F)
Process pressure range
- Maximum static process pressure: ≤ 40 bar (580 psi). Information on specific process connections is provided in the "Process connection" section.
Permitted flow velocity
Diminishes with increasing sensor immersion length. Figures for maximum permitted flow velocities in water and superheated steam at 1 MPa (10 bar) are provided in the datasheet.

Mechanical construction
Design
- Cable sensor design with the measuring point near the tip.
- Standard thermocouple types: J and K.
- Sensors are typically made of mineral-insulated tubing with thermocouple wires.
- Can be installed using a movable compression fitting or supplied without a special process connection.

Process connection
- Threaded compression fitting (TA50):

- Maximum process pressure: 40 bar at 20 °C (580 psi at 68 °F).
- Clamping ring material: SS316. Can only be used once.
Materials
- Cable sensors and process connection:
- AISI 316 / 1.4401: Recommended max. continuous use in air: 650 °C (1 200 °F)¹. High corrosion resistance.
- Alloy 600 / 2.4816: Recommended max. continuous use in air: 1 100 °C (2 012 °F). Good resistance to aggressive atmospheres, even at high temperatures. ¹ Can be used to a limited extent up to 800 °C (1472 °F) for low compressive loads and in non-corrosive media.
- Connecting cable insulation:
- PVC: Resistant to acid, high degree of hardness. Low impact strength and low temperature stability.
- Glass fiber: Suitable for high temperatures in dry environments, non-flammable. Limited tension resistance, not suitable for constant movements.
