Summary

Product identification

The Testomat® 2000 THCl is a combined process photometer for total chlorine (0 - 2.5 ppm) and a process titrator for water hardness (0.25 - 2.50 °dH).

Short description

This instrument monitors total chlorine concentration using a colorimetric analysis principle and determines water hardness through titration. It is suitable for applications such as protecting reverse osmosis membranes from hardness and chlorine damage.

Parameter / Measuring range

ParameterUnitRangeResolution
Water hardness°dH0.25 - 2.50(0.05)
°f0.45 - 4.48(0.1)
ppm CaCO₃4.47 - 44.7(0.9)
mmol/l0.04 - 0.45(0.01)
Total Chlorinemg/l (ppm)0.0 - 2.5(0.1)

Operating limits

  • Temperature: Sample water must be between 10 °C and 40 °C.
  • Heavy-metal ions:
    • Iron above 0.5 mg/l
    • Copper above 0.1 mg/l
    • Aluminum above 0.1 mg/l
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO₂): Concentration of more than 100 mg/l can affect analysis.
  • pH range: 4 - 10.5.

Feed water

  • Sampling tube: Maximum length of 5 meters. Must be equipped with a hand-operated shut-off valve.
  • Connection: Branch line connection should be taken vertically from the top of the main soft water line.
  • Hose connection (standard): Opaque plastic hoses 6/4 x 1 (external diameter 6 mm/internal diameter 4 mm).
  • Pressure: If operating with a pressure range of 0.1 to 1 bar, remove the valve body from the regulator/filter housing.
  • Cooler: KCN type cooler must be installed in the branch line if water temperatures are higher than the operating limit.

Product water (Drain)

  • Hose connection: Internal diameter 14 mm.
  • Drainage: Ensure water can run freely to the drain. Use a light-impervious hose for the drain pipe to discourage algae formation.

Electrical

  • Mains input: 230 - 240 V AC (or 24 V AC).
  • Relay outputs: Maximum load 240 V AC, 4 A.
  • Signal inputs: Connect only with volt-free contacts.
  • Optional Interface Output: 0/4 - 20 mA or serial interface (RS 232).

Mechanical / hydraulic

  • Dimensions: See dimensioned sketch (Page 3).
  • Mounting: Unit should be fixed vertically. Avoid tension on the housing.
  • Hose connections: Standard plug connector for opaque plastic hoses 6/4 x 1. Optional adapter for quick-acting coupling available.

Controls and displays

  • Power switch: Located on the right-hand side panel.
  • Display: 4-line LC-Display for current analysis, status results, and programming data.
  • Status LEDs: Signal current status of analysis and unit.
  • Programming keys: Cursor block with ENTER key for value entry.
  • Function keys: Manual, STANDBY, Horn, i-key, M-Taste.

Relay outputs

  • Flush: External flush valve control.
  • LV1 (Limit Value 1): For residual hardness, volt-free change-over contact, programmable functions (Continuous, Impulse, Interval, Hysteresis).
  • LV2 (Limit Value 2): For total chlorine, volt-free change-over contact, programmable functions (Continuous, Impulse, Interval, Hysteresis).
  • Measuring point switch-over (1/2): For monitoring two measuring points, volt-free relay output. Terminal 9 for Measuring point 1 (Residual hardness), Terminal 10 for Measuring point 2 (Total chlorine).
  • AUX (Programmable Function Output): Volt-free relay output, programmable for contact before, during, or after analysis.
  • Alarm: Fault message output, volt-free change-over relay contact.
  • Maintenance: Maintenance message output, volt-free change-over relay contact.

Signal inputs

  • Start: External analysis start (volt-free normally open contact).
  • Stop: External analysis stop (volt-free normally open/closed contact).
  • IN1 (Universal Input 1): External measuring point switch-over (suppression of measuring point 2) (volt-free normally open/closed contact).
  • IN2 (Universal Input 2): Water meter input (volt-free normally open contact) for quantity recording.

Maintenance

  • Interval: Programmable maintenance interval in days.
  • Work: Includes cleaning the measuring chamber, sight-glass windows, and filter housing.
  • Reagent Level Monitoring: Low level indicators for reagents A, B, C, and indicator TH.
