Summary
Product Identification
Testomat ECO® is an online analysis instrument for residual total hardness (water hardness).
Intended Use
The instrument is designed for the automatic determination and monitoring of residual total hardness in water with a pH level above 4. The required measuring range is determined by indicator selection and user programming.
Operating Limits
- Operating Pressure: 0.3 to 8 bar (factory setting). Can be adjusted to 0.3 to 1 bar by modifying the flow controller.
- Water Temperature: 10 °C to 40 °C. For temperatures above 40 °C, a KCN type cooler should be installed.
- Water pH Level: Above 4.0. For pH < 4.0, a special valve block (Art. No. 40018) may be required.
Feed Water Properties
- Heavy Metal Ions: High concentrations of heavy metal ions can influence color reaction. Iron above 0.5 mg/l, copper above 0.1 mg/l, and aluminum above 0.1 mg/l can cause a brownish-red color display.
- Carbonic Acid (CO₂): If the measuring water contains more than 20 mg/l CO₂, erroneous evaluations cannot be excluded. An aerator type R may be necessary.
Performance Specifications
- Menu-driven operation and programming via plain text display.
- Determines total water hardness.
- Freely selectable hardness units: °dH, °f, ppm CaCO₃, or mmol/l.
- High measuring accuracy with a precise piston-dosing pump.
- Extended operating periods with a 500 ml indicator storage bottle.
- Analysis initiation:
- Automatic interval operation (interval pause settable from 0-99 minutes).
- Quantity-dependent via impulse water meter/turbine.
- External analysis stop.
- Two independent limit values with hysteresis (1, 2, or 3 bad analyses) and settable switch functions via two change-over contacts.
- Fault message output via a change-over contact.
- 0/4 - 20 mA current output.

Commissioning
- Ensure the instrument is only used with Heyl Testomat® indicators.
- Indicator extraction is automatic via the DOSIClip pump. The intake and transport hoses must be filled with indicator.
- Water inlet should be opened slowly. The measuring chamber should fill in 2 to 6 seconds.
Instrument Settings and Data Input
Display Functions
- Limit Value Status Displays (1 & 2): Illuminate red if limit value is reached/exceeded; green if below the limit value.
- Text Display (2 lines): Shows current analysis result, statuses, and programming data. Line 1 displays the measured value (< or > for out-of-range). Line 2 displays set limit values LV1 and LV2.
- Alarm (red LED): Indicates malfunctioning, error, or warning message.
- Analysis Message (yellow LED): Indicates a current analysis is in progress.
- "BOB operation" Symbol (╘╛): Displayed when "operation without permanent supervision" is active.
Operating Elements and Function Keys
- Cursor Block: For navigating menus, selecting functions, and entering data.
- "ENTER" Key: Confirms selections and data input.
- "Manual" Key: Manually starts an analysis.
- "STANDBY" Key: Sets the instrument to standby mode.
- "Horn" Key: Acknowledges error and warning messages.
