Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: AmberLite™ FPC88MB Ion Exchange Resins
  • Type: Macroporous, Strong Acid Cation Resin
  • Application: Mixed Bed Sweetener Applications

Description

AmberLite™ FPC88MB Ion Exchange Resins are macroporous, strong acid cation resins designed for mixed bed polishing in sweetener applications to produce syrup products with maximum shelf stability. The macroporous matrix offers excellent mechanical strength and good operating capacity.

  • AmberLite™ FPC88MB H Ion Exchange Resin is shipped in the regenerated (H⁺) ionic form.
  • AmberLite™ FPC88MB Na Ion Exchange Resin is shipped in the most stable (Na⁺) ionic form for long-duration shipments or inventory safety stock.

This cation resin can be used in a mixed bed with:

  • Anionic AmberLite™ FPA22 OH Ion Exchange Resin.
  • Or, AmberLite™ FPA22 Cl Ion Exchange Resin (in Cl⁻ form).

Applications

  • Sweetener mixed bed polishing

Hydraulic Characteristics

Bed expansion and pressure drop data are provided in Figures 1 and 2, respectively.

  • Figure 1: Backwash Expansion relates bed expansion as a function of backwash flowrate at 25°C (77°F). Equations are available to calculate flowrate for desired bed expansion at other water temperatures.
  • Figure 2: Pressure Drop shows pressure drop expectations as a function of service flowrate and viscosity at the start of the service run with clean feed. Data is valid for temperatures of 25°C (77°F) with viscosity of 2 – 12 cP.

Formulas for Temperature Correction:

  • Celsius: FT = F25°C [1 + 0.008 (1.8T°C −45)], where F ≡m/h
  • Fahrenheit: FT = F77°F [1 + 0.008 (T°F −77)], where F ≡gpm/ft²
