Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: AmberLite™ HPR4780 Cl Ion Exchange Resin
  • Product Type: Acrylic, Gel, Strong Base Anion Exchange Resin for Industrial Demineralization
  • Previous Name: AmberLite™ IRA478RF Ion Exchange Resin

Description

AmberLite™ HPR4780 Cl is a bifunctional anion exchange resin designed for industrial demineralization, balancing high operating capacity with low pressure drop. It is suitable for treating waters with high organic fouling potential, over 75% free mineral acidity, up to 10% silica, and temperatures up to 35°C (95°F).

The resin combines weak base and strong base functionality, enabling the removal of free mineral acids, silica (SiO₂), and carbon dioxide (CO₂). Its hydrophilic acrylic structure offers good resistance to organic fouling and osmotic or mechanical stress, with easy release of organic compounds during regeneration.

Applications

  • Demineralization: Particularly effective for water with high organic fouling potential and high percentages of mineral acidity (FMA).
  • Acid Removal: Suitable for removing both strong and weak acids.

System Designs

  • Co-current
  • Counter-current / Hold-down
  • Packed beds

Hydraulic Characteristics

Estimated bed expansion and pressure drop data as a function of backwash flow rate, service flow rate, and temperature are provided in Figures 1 and 2 respectively. These figures are valid at the start of the service run with clean water and a well-classified bed.

  • Figure 1: Backwash Expansion: Temperature Range 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F)
  • Figure 2: Pressure Drop: Temperature Range 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F)
