Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: AmberLite™ HPR9500 Ion Exchange Resin
  • Type: Uniform Particle Size, Macroporous, Weak Base Anion Exchange Resin
  • Application: Industrial Demineralization
  • Previous Trade Name: DOWEX™ MARATHON™ WBA Ion Exchange Resin

Description

AmberLite™ HPR9500 is a weak base anion exchange resin designed for industrial demineralization. It offers high performance and cost-effectiveness, optimized for excellent operating capacity and rinse characteristics, aiming to reduce regenerant and water usage. This resin is suitable for use with strong base anion resins to enhance demineralization system efficiency and throughput. It effectively removes mineral acids and organics, reducing the load on strong base resins and protecting them from organic fouling. The resin exhibits excellent thermal stability and high kinetics for good operating capacity, even at low temperatures. Its macroporous structure aids in releasing organic molecules, providing good resistance to organic fouling. It can facilitate quick start-up in single or layered bed systems when paired with an OH-form strong base anion resin.

Applications

  • Demineralization, particularly for water with:
    • High organic fouling potential
    • High percentage of mineral acidity (FMA)
  • Partial demineralization where weak acid removal is not a primary requirement

System Designs

Compatible with various system technologies and bed configurations:

  • Co-current
  • Counter-current / Hold-down
  • Layered beds
  • Packed beds

Hydraulic Characteristics

Figures showing estimated bed expansion during backwash and pressure drop during service are provided in the original document, dependent on flowrate and temperature.

  • Backwash Expansion (Figure 1): Temperature range 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F).
  • Pressure Drop (Figure 2): Temperature range 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F). These estimates are valid at the start of the service run with clean water.

Product Stewardship

DuPont is committed to product stewardship, assessing health, safety, and environmental information for its products. Users are encouraged to review their manufacturing processes and applications to ensure safe and intended use. Safety Data Sheets should be consulted prior to use.

WARNING: Oxidizing agents like nitric acid can attack ion exchange resins, potentially causing degradation or violent reactions. Consult knowledgeable sources before using strong oxidizing agents.
