Summary

Product identification

AmberLite™ IRA96 Ion Exchange Resin

Description

Gaussian, macroporous, weak base anion exchange resin for industrial demineralization applications. It is a general-purpose demineralization resin with a long history of reliable performance. This durable resin provides a good balance of capacity and strength, leading to a long lifetime in co-flow regenerated systems for industrial water treatment. Weak base anion resins are effective when used with strong base anion resins to improve the overall efficiency and throughput of a demineralization system. They efficiently remove mineral acids and organics, reducing the ionic load on the strong base anion resin and protecting it from organic fouling. The weak base anion resin also increases a system's overall capacity for removing organics. AmberLite™ IRA96 exhibits excellent physical and thermal stability. Its macroporous structure facilitates the easy release of natural organic molecules, offering high resistance to organic fouling.

Applications

  • Demineralization, particularly when treating water with:
    • High potential for organic fouling
    • High percentage of mineral acidity (FMA)
  • Partial demineralization when weak acid removal is not required

Hydraulic Characteristics

Estimated bed expansion and pressure drop curves are available in the original document (Figures 1 and 2), showing dependency on backwash/service flowrate and temperature. These estimates are valid at the start of the service run with clean water and a well-classified bed.

  • Backwash Expansion: Figure 1 (Temperature = 10 – 60°C / 50 – 140°F)
  • Pressure Drop: Figure 2 (Temperature = 10 – 60°C / 50 – 140°F)
