Summary
Product identification
AmberLite™ IRN160 H/OH Ion Exchange Resin
A mixture of nuclear-grade, uniform particle size, gel, strong acid cation and strong base anion exchange resins for water treatment applications in the nuclear power industry. It is a stoichiometric equivalent mixture of AmberLite™ IRN97 H and AmberLite™ IRN78 OH on a 1:1 equivalent basis.
Applications
- Primary water treatment:
- Treatment of primary coolant blowdown
- Pre-outage cleanup
- Fuel pool purification
- Rad waste treatment and decontamination:
- Removal of radioactive cations such as 137Cs and cobalt isotopes
- Removal of anionic radioactive material
- Removal of silver
- PWR steam generation blowdown (APG)
- BWR condensate polishing
Purity
Nuclear-grade resins manufactured with specific procedures to minimize ionic and non-ionic contamination.

Suggested Operating Conditions
- Temperature Range (H⁺/OH⁻ form): 5 – 100°C (41 – 212°F)
- pH Range (Stable): 0 – 14
Note: Operating mixed beds at elevated temperatures (above 60 – 70°C) may impact purity and resin life.
Hydraulic Characteristics
Estimated pressure drop as a function of service flowrate and temperature is shown in Figure 1 (refer to original document). These expectations are valid at the start of the service run with clean water.
Product Stewardship
DuPont emphasizes safety, health, and environmental considerations in its product stewardship philosophy. Customers are encouraged to review manufacturing processes and applications to ensure appropriate use. Safety data sheets should be consulted prior to use.
WARNING: Oxidizing agents such as nitric acid can attack organic ion exchange resins, potentially leading to degradation or violent exothermic reactions. Consult knowledgeable sources before using strong oxidizing agents.
