Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: AmberLite™ SCAV1 Ion Exchange Resin
- Type: Gaussian, Acrylic, Gel, Organic Scavenging Resin for Industrial Demineralization
- Manufacturer: DuPont
Description
AmberLite™ SCAV1 Ion Exchange Resin is an organic scavenger designed for demineralization systems to remove natural organic matter (NOM) from water. It can be used as part of a patent-pending organic scavenging process positioned between cation and anion columns, potentially offering significant savings in chemical costs, water use, and waste discharge volume/TDS compared to conventional scavengers. The resin has two performance profiles depending on the regenerant: hydrochloric acid for highest TOC removal capacity, and caustic for lowest possible TOC leakage. It is also suitable for applications where sulfate is the limiting factor rather than TOC, particularly when the ratio of TOC (ppm C) to sulfate (meq/L SO₄) is less than 3.
Applications
- Organic scavenging
- To reduce TOC in the product water
- To protect strong base anion resin from fouling
System Designs
- Co-current

Hydraulic Characteristics
Estimated bed expansion and pressure drop as a function of backwash flow rate, service flow rate, and temperature are available in Figures 1 and 2, respectively. These estimations are valid at the start of the service run with clean water and a well-classified bed.
- Backwash Expansion (Figure 1): Temperature 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F)
- Pressure Drop (Figure 2): Temperature 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F)
