Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: AmberLite™ SD-2 Polymeric Adsorbent
  • Product Type: Food-grade, Macroporous, Adsorbent Resin
  • Applications: Sucrose and other sweetener applications, sweetener decolorization, taste and odor removal.

Description

AmberLite™ SD-2 is a macroporous adsorbent resin with a high specific surface area and porosity. It offers exceptional mechanical, thermal, and chemical stability. Designed for decolorization and taste/odor removal in sweetener applications, it can be used as a direct replacement for activated carbon in many instances due to similar pore size distribution and adsorption properties. Its macroporous structure enhances the movement of solutions, leading to improved kinetics, faster flow rates, and potentially smaller beds. The resin is lightly functionalized with weak base (tertiary amine) groups, providing a hydrophilic character that ensures good wettability and compatibility with acid and base regenerants. Regeneration can be achieved with dilute caustic, dilute acid, and hot water.

AmberLite™ SD-2 complies with the U.S. Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act as amended under Food Additive Regulation 21 CFR 173.25.

* 1 BV (Bed Volume) = 1 m³ solution per m³ resin or 7.5 gal per ft³ resin

Hydraulic Characteristics

Estimated pressure drop for AmberLite™ SD-2 is dependent on service flowrate and viscosity. The provided Figure 1 (not included in this text) illustrates these expectations, which are valid at the start of a service run with clean feed and a well-classified bed. The viscosity range considered is 2 – 8 cP.
