Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: AmberTec™ UP1400 H Ion Exchange Resin
- Type: Uniform Particle Size, Gel, Strong Acid Cation Exchange Resin
- Intended Use: Mixed Bed Demineralization Applications for the Semiconductor Industry
Description
AmberTec™ UP1400 H Ion Exchange Resin is a semiconductor-grade, uniform particle size, gel, strong acid cation resin specifically developed for producing ultrapure water for the semiconductor industry. It is intended for use in regenerable primary or polishing mixed beds. The resin is supplied in the fully-regenerated hydrogen form (H⁺) to minimize impurity leakage. It is designed to be paired with anionic AmberTec™ UP4000 OH or AmberTec™ UP900 OH Ion Exchange Resins for mixed bed applications. It can also be used as the cation exchange resin component in non-regenerable polishing mixed beds to achieve very low leakage of ionic species, silica, total organic carbon (TOC), and sub-micron particles.
Historically, this product was sold as AMBERJET™ UP1400 H Ion Exchange Resin.
Resin Pairings
Recommended anionic resin pairings:
- AmberTec™ UP4000 OH Ion Exchange Resin (gel)
- AmberTec™ UP900 OH Ion Exchange Resin (macroporous)

Hydraulic Characteristics
Estimated bed expansion and pressure drop data for AmberTec™ UP1400 H Ion Exchange Resin as a function of backwash flowrate, service flowrate, and temperature are presented in the manufacturer's PDF in Figures 1 and 2. These pressure drop expectations are valid at the start of a service run with clean water.
- Figure 1 (Backwash Expansion): Temperature = 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F)
- Figure 2 (Pressure Drop): Temperature = 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F)
Quality Assurance
AmberTec™ UP1400 H Ion Exchange Resin is tested by the manufacturer for resistivity, total organic carbon (TOC), and kinetic performance when used in a mixed bed with AmberTec™ UP4000 OH Ion Exchange Resin. These tests ensure that all batches meet stringent ultrapure water (UPW) performance requirements for these critical parameters. Figure 3 in the PDF shows typical rinse curves for resistivity and TOC as a function of rinse time based on the manufacturer's quality control procedure.
