Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: DuPont™ AmberTec™ UP9600 Ion Exchange Resin
- Grade: Semiconductor Grade
- Type: Weak Base Anion Exchange Resin
- Form Number: 45-D03071-en, Rev. 1
- Date: February 2023
Description
AmberTec™ UP9600 is a macroporous, weak base anion exchange resin designed for producing ultrapure water in the semiconductor industry. It is suitable for packed bed and floating bed demineralization systems, particularly for use prior to reverse osmosis. This resin undergoes additional cleaning to minimize leachable organic materials, enabling immediate high-quality water production. Its optimized chemical properties and particle size aim for excellent operating capacity, reduced regenerant and water usage, and resistance to osmotic shock due to its stable structure and limited reversible swelling. The high porosity facilitates efficient adsorption and desorption of large organic molecules, protecting downstream strong base anion resins from fouling.
Applications
- Demineralization in Ultra Pure Water systems, especially for water with:
- High organic fouling potential
- High percentage of mineral acidity (FMA)
- Partial demineralization where weak acid removal is not required.
System Designs
Compatible with:
- Co-current systems
- Counter-current / Hold-down systems
- Layered beds

Hydraulic Characteristics
Estimated bed expansion and pressure drop as a function of backwash flowrate, service flowrate, and temperature are detailed in Figures 1 and 2 of the original document. These estimations are valid at the start of a service run with clean water and a well-classified bed.
- Backwash Expansion (Figure 1): Temperature range of 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F).
- Pressure Drop (Figure 2): Temperature range of 10 – 60°C (50 – 140°F).
