ECOMIX® Filter Media Overview

This document details the ECOMIX® range of filter media, including ECOMIX® P, ECOMIX® A, and ECOMIX® C. These are blends of ion exchange and sorption materials designed for water softening and the reduction of iron, manganese, ammonium, and natural organic matter.

ECOMIX® P

Designed for well or tap water with low organic matter and requires stable water quality.

Raw Water Quality Requirements and Efficiency of Purification:

  • Hardness: 750 ppm CaCO₃
  • Iron: 15 mg/L
  • Manganese: 3 mg/L
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand: 3 mg/L O₂
  • Ammonium: 4 mg/L
  • Service life: 3 years

Technical Specifications:

  • Service flow rate: 20–25 m/h
  • Backwash flow rate: 10–15 m/h
  • Brine (slow rinse) flow rate: 3–5 m/h
  • Minimum bed depth: 500 mm
  • Recommended bed depth: 800 mm
  • Freeboard: 40% or more
  • Salt consumption: 100 g/L (150 g/L if using potassium chloride)
  • Brine concentration: 8–10% NaCl
  • Water consumption per regeneration: under 10 L/L

  • Dynamic exchange capacity: 40.0 g/L as CaCO₃ (0.8 eq/L)
  • Bead size: 0.3 – 4.0 mm
  • Bulk density: 0.8 kg/L
  • Moisture: 55 – 80%

Recommended Operating Conditions (ECOMIX® P):

  • Operating temperature: 0 – 40 °C
  • pH range: 5 – 9
  • Minimum bed depth: 500 mm
  • Recommended bed depth: 800 mm
  • Freeboard: 40% or more
  • Salt consumption: 100 g/L media
  • Brine solution concentration: 8 – 10% NaCl

ECOMIX® A

Designed for well or tap water with moderate organic matter, handling seasonal variations in water composition.

Raw Water Quality Requirements and Efficiency of Purification:

  • Hardness: 750 ppm CaCO₃
  • Iron: 15 mg/L
  • Manganese: 3 mg/L
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand: 20 mg/L O₂ (Reduces by 50%)
  • Ammonium: 4 mg/L
  • Service life: 5 years

Product Specification (ECOMIX® A):

  • Dynamic exchange capacity: 35 g/L CaCO₃
  • Bead size: 0.3 – 4.0 mm
  • Volume ratio of fractions (0.3 – 1.2 mm): 80 – 90%
  • Volume ratio of fractions (2.0 – 4.0 mm): 10 – 20%
  • Bulk density: 0.8 kg/L
  • Moisture: 55 – 80%

Recommended Operating Conditions (ECOMIX® A):

  • Operating temperature: 0 – 40 °C
  • pH range: 5 – 10
  • Minimum bed depth: 500 mm
  • Recommended bed depth: 800 mm
  • Freeboard: > 40% of bed depth
  • Total water usage per regeneration: < 10 bed volumes
  • Salt consumption: > 100 – 150 g/L resin
  • Brine solution concentration: > 8 – 10% NaCl

ECOMIX® C

Designed for well or tap water with high organic matter, capable of handling seasonal variations even with significant changes in raw water quality.

Raw Water Quality Requirements and Efficiency of Purification:

  • Hardness: 750 ppm CaCO₃
  • Iron: 15 mg/L
  • Manganese: 3 mg/L
  • Chemical Oxygen Demand: 20 mg/L O₂ (Reduces by 80%)
  • Ammonium: 4 mg/L
  • Service life: 5 years

  • Dynamic exchange capacity: 30 g/L CaCO₃
  • Bead size: 0.3 – 4.0 mm
  • Volume ratio of fractions (0.3 – 1.2 mm): 80 – 90%
  • Volume ratio of fractions (2.0 – 4.0 mm): 10 – 20%
  • Bulk density: 0.8 kg/L
  • Moisture: 55 – 80%

General Technical Notes

  • Warnings:
    • Reduced iron removal efficiency will occur if the backwash rate is not followed.
    • Backwash may not be sufficiently effective if the volume of ECOMIX® in the vessel is more than 60%.
  • The components of the blends self-classify into layers inside the filter during the first regeneration.
  • Packaging is available in 12 L and 25 L bags.
