Summary

Product Identification

  • Product Name: Lewatit® GF 202
  • Product Type: Macroporous cation exchange resin with beads of uniform particle size.
  • Functional Group: Sulfonic
  • Matrix: Styrenic
  • Structure: Macroporous
  • Appearance: Beige, opaque
  • Delivery Form: Neutral

Application

Developed for the removal of glycerine and soaps from biodiesel in fixed beds.

Key Features and Benefits

  • High glycerine capacities (at a throughput of 1 to 2 BV/h up to 250 g/l)
  • Simultaneous removal of soaps and salts
  • Low pressure drop across the bed (40 - 120 kPa)
  • No wastewater production
  • Robust and low-cost process
  • Regenerant methanol can be recycled to the transesterification stage

Operating Conditions

  • Preconditioning: Requires simple preconditioning with 2 BV of methanol to strip water.
  • Stability Temperature Range: 1-130 °C
  • Storage Temperature Range: -20 - +40 °C

Physical and Chemical Properties

  • Uniformity Coefficient: max. 1.1
  • Effective Size (d10): 0.60-0.70 mm
  • Bulk Density for Shipment (+/- 5%): 740 g/L
  • Density (approx.): 1.24 g/mL
  • Water Retention (delivery form, approx. weight %): 52-57 %

Storage and Handling

  • Recommended Storage: Above the freezing point of water, under roof, in dry conditions, without direct sunlight.
  • Frozen Resin: If frozen, allow to thaw gradually at ambient temperature before handling or use. Do not accelerate thawing.
  • Packaging Stability: Limited to 24 months under recommended storage conditions. It is recommended to use the product within this timeframe or check packaging condition regularly.
  • Safety: Observe safety data sheet. Avoid contact with strong oxidants (e.g., nitric acid).

Disposal

Dispose of ion exchange resins according to the European waste nomenclature within the European Community.
