Summary

Product Identification

Lewatit® K 6462 is a strongly basic, gelular anion exchange resin with uniform size beads (monodisperse) based on a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer.

Applications:

  • Hydrometallurgical processes, e.g. uranium extraction.
  • Chemicals processing: extraction and recovery of anionic heavy metal complexes.

Physical and Chemical Properties

  • Ionic form as shipped: Cl⁻
  • Functional group: Quaternary amine, type I
  • Matrix: Crosslinked polystyrene
  • Structure: Gel type beads
  • Appearance: Yellow, translucent

Key Properties:

  • Total capacity: min. 1.4 eq/l
  • Uniformity Coefficient: max. 1.1
  • Mean bead size: 0.5 (± 0.05) mm
  • Bulk density: approx. 650 g/l (± 5 %)
  • Density: approx. 1.08 g/ml
  • Water retention: 45 - 50 wt. %
  • Volume change (Cl⁻ → OH⁻): max. 22 vol. %
  • Stability (pH range): 0 - 14
  • Storability (years): max. 2
  • Storability (temperature range): -20 to 40 °C

Storage and Handling

  • Recommended storage conditions: above freezing point of water, under roof, dry, and out of direct sunlight.
  • If the resin freezes, allow it to thaw gradually at ambient temperature before handling or use. Do not accelerate thawing.
  • Avoid contact with strong oxidants such as nitric acid, which can cause violent reactions.
  • Observe the safety data sheet for additional information on transport, storage, handling, safety, and ecology.
  • Disposal should comply with the European waste nomenclature.
