PDF datasheet mirror for LEWATIT® MonoPlus TP 214 (Lanxess LEWATIT). Verify with OEM before design.

Summary

Product identification

  • Product Name: Lewatit® MonoPlus TP 214
  • Functional Group: Thiourea
  • Matrix: Styrenic
  • Structure: Macroporous
  • Appearance: Beige, opaque
  • Edition: 2018-07-05

Applications

Lewatit® MonoPlus TP 214 is designed for the selective removal of mercury, precious metals of the platinum group, gold, and silver. It is especially suitable for:

  • Removal of mercury (Hg) in flue gas scrubbing processes
  • Fine polishing of brine fed to chloralkali membrane cells (in mercury process and during conversion to membrane process)
  • Removal of mercury from ground water
  • Metal separation and recovery in hydrometallurgy (e.g., for gold (Au), silver (Ag), and platinum metals (Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh))
  • Recovery of platinum group metals from rinse water and exhausted process solutions
  • Recovery of palladium catalysts from organic process streams

Operating limits

  • Stability pH range: 0-14
  • Stability temperature range: 1-80 °C
  • Storage temperature range: -20 - +40 °C
  • Operating temperature (max.): 80 °C

Feed water

Cations are removed from neutral solutions in the following order (decreasing affinity): Hg²⁺ > Ag⁺ > Au⁺/³⁺ > Pt²⁺/⁴⁺ > Cu²⁺ > Pb²⁺/⁴⁺ > Bi³⁺ > Sn²⁺ Zn²⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Ni²⁺

Product water

The resin offers remarkable low leakage in the low ppb range according to process conditions.

Electrical

No specific electrical data provided in the extract.

  • Uniformity coefficient (max.): 1.1
  • Mean bead size (d₅₀): 0.55 (+/- 0.05) mm
  • Silver capacity (delivery form, min.): 110 g/L
  • Bulk density for shipment (+/- 5%): 680 g/L
  • Density (approx.): 1.1 g/mL
  • Water retention (delivery form, approx.): 54-60 % weight
  • Bed depth for single column (min.): 1000 mm
  • Backwash bed expansion per m/h (20°C): 7 %
  • Specific pressure loss (15°C): 1.1 kPa*h/m²
  • Max. pressure loss during operation: 250 kPa
  • Specific flow rate (max.): 5-20 BV/h
  • Freeboard during backwash (min.): 80 vol. %

Other properties

  • Odorless property: Allows safe filling of filters.
  • Regeneration: Not possible with usually applied regenerant solutions. Incineration is recommended for precious metal recovery or mercury disposal.

Safety and Disposal

  • Safety Precautions: Strong oxidants (e.g., nitric acid) can cause violent reactions with ion exchange resins. Observe the Safety Data Sheet.
  • Disposal: In the European Community, dispose of according to the European waste nomenclature. Incineration is recommended.
  • Storage: Store above freezing point of water, under roof, dry, and out of direct sunlight. If frozen, thaw gradually at ambient temperature before handling or use.

Packaging

Packaging stability is limited to 24 months under described storage conditions. Use product within this timeframe or check packaging condition regularly.
