Hydraulic Characteristics

Backwash

  • Bed Expansion: Resin bed should be expanded 50-70% for at least 10-15 minutes during up-flow backwash.
  • Initial Service: Approximately 30 minutes of expansion is usually sufficient.
  • Factors Affecting Expansion: Increases with flow rate, decreases with influent fluid temperature.
  • Caution: Avoid loss of resin through the top of the vessel by over expansion.

Pressure Drop

  • Factors Affecting Pressure Drop: Particle size distribution, bed depth, voids volume, flow rate, viscosity of influent solution, presence of particulate matter, abnormal compressibility of resin, incomplete classification of the bed.
  • Service Flow Rates: May vary from 10 to 40 BV/h, depending on water quality, application, and plant design.

Principal Applications

  • Demineralization - Industrial
