Hydraulic Characteristics
BACKWASH
- Bed Expansion: 50 to 70% for at least 10 to 15 minutes during up-flow backwash.
- Initial Classification: Approximately 30 minutes of expansion when first putting into service.
- Note: Bed expansion increases with flow rate and decreases with influent fluid temperature. Caution is advised to avoid resin loss through the top of the vessel by over expansion.
PRESSURE DROP
- Factors Affecting Pressure Drop: Particle size distribution, bed depth, voids volume, flow rate, influent solution viscosity, filtered particulate matter, resin compressibility, and bed classification.
- Service Flow Rates: May vary from 10 to 40 BV/h depending on influent water quality, application, and plant design.
