Summary
Product identification
- Product Name: PUROLITE® S924
- Product Type: Chelating Resin
- Application: Mercury Removal, Regenerable
Description
Purolite S924 is a polystyrene-based chelating resin specifically designed for the selective removal of mercury. It forms highly stable complexes with mercury, exhibiting a strong selective affinity compared to other heavy metals. The resin also shows high selectivity for silver, copper, lead, cadmium, nickel, and cobalt, making it suitable for waste treatment and hydrometallurgical processes. Its high selectivity for mercury is largely unaffected by high chloride or sulfate content in the effluent.
The resin is designed for removing moderately low concentrations of soluble mercury salts from brine streams used in the production of caustic soda and chlorine where mercury cells are employed. Regenerant concentrated hydrochloric acid solutions can be used.
Purolite S924 is prone to oxidation; long-term exposure to the atmosphere is detrimental. It is recommended to ship and store the resin under water. Free chlorine and other strong oxidizing agents can damage the resin and should be removed by filtering through activated carbon prior to contact.

Disclaimer
This summary is extracted from a datasheet and may not include all figures, footnotes, or revisions. Contractual data must match the official OEM PDF revision used on the project.
Note: The provided text suggests Purolite S920 might be preferred over S924 when regeneration is not economic due to Purolite S920's higher capacity.
