Summary

Product identification

AMBERJET™ 1000 Na is an industrial-grade strong acid cation exchanger. It is a uniform particle size, high-quality, strong acid cation exchanger designed for use in water treatment applications, including softening and demineralisation. It is a styrene divinylbenzene copolymer with sulfonic acid functional groups in the Na⁺ ionic form as shipped.

Properties

  • Physical form: Amber spherical beads
  • Matrix: Styrene divinylbenzene copolymer
  • Functional group: Sulfonic acid
  • Ionic form as shipped: Na⁺
  • Total exchange capacity [1]: ≥ 2.00 eq/L (Na⁺ form)
  • Moisture holding capacity [1]: 45 to 50 % (Na⁺ form)
  • Shipping weight: 850 g/L
  • Specific gravity: 1.26 to 1.30 (Na⁺ form)
  • Particle size
    • Uniformity coefficient [1]: ≤ 1.3
    • Harmonic mean size: 0.600 - 0.800 mm
    • < 0.425 mm [1]: 2 % max

[1] Contractual value. Test methods are available on request.

Suggested operating conditions

  • Maximum operating temperature: 135 °C
  • Minimum bed depth: 800 mm
  • Service flow rate: 5 to 40 BV*/h

Regeneration

  • Regenerant: NaCl, HCl, H₂SO₄
  • Level (g/L): 50 to 240 (NaCl), 40 to 150 (HCl), 40 to 200 (H₂SO₄)
  • Concentration (%): 10 (NaCl), 4 to 10 (HCl), 1 to 8 (H₂SO₄)
  • Minimum contact time: 20 minutes
  • Slow rinse: 2 BV at regeneration flow rate
  • Fast rinse: 1 to 3 BV at service flow rate

* 1 BV (Bed Volume) = 1 m³ solution per m³ resin.

Hydraulic characteristics

Bed expansion as a function of backwash flow rate and water temperature is shown in Figure 1. Pressure drop data as a function of service flow rate and water temperature are shown in Figure 2. Pressure drop data are valid at the start of the service run with clear water and a correctly classified bed.

Limits of use

AMBERJET 1000 Na resin is suitable for industrial uses. For specific applications such as pharmaceutical, food processing, or potable water, consult Rohm and Haas for resin choice and operating conditions.
